Re Aiming scenes

Nope not on my dmx. not with the current version. i don't know if there will be an updated version and if so what features but as of right now with the current build there is no way to do that. Be sure you allocate yourself plenty of time to get your rig set up.

Well, if you're in the same place twice(I know, you said rarely), you could always SAVE AS your shows for each location for easier recall.

If you're having to re-aim things, chances are you're setting up differently each time.

Here's my example of a "problem":

When I do my "Mr. Lobo Insomniac's Oath" scene, it relies heavily on my movers using blue and rotating the vortex gobo. My issue is that the mover on the RIGHT has to start at I think 129, and the other one has to start at 141 or something like that. My issue is that I have to remember to set the correct fixture to the correct channels before the show starts. Not a big deal. My luck is with me, this event is always at the same place.

But I understand your situation. You go from place to place and each stage is different and you have to figure out how to make it work for you to perform, and then for your lights.

Might I suggest wash-type fixtures instead of movers? Yeah, the movers are nicer and better, you can argue that all day long and I'm gonna for the most part agree with you on that point. But for the sake of set-up, perhaps just washes works better for you?

Unfortunately, things like pallets and presets are only on more expensive control solutions, like Hog PC for example.

Correct me if I am wrong jingles, but isn't the new version of CompuLive suppose to get at least a position pallet/preset setup? I think I remember hearing or reading something along those lines, but can't quite remember.

If this is the case, you might want to look into CompuLive JTOFT81. Also, welcome to the forums.

That's correct. Compu live is supposed to get that feature. As far as any upgrades to my dmx I am still trying to find out.

In respect to users:

Taking my position, I know what I'm getting into with MyDMX. While it's not gonna make world peace or end global hunger, one has to stop and think about what it is they are getting for the money they are paying. Considering a console in the same category, it blows the crap out of any console in that price range(disclaimer: NEW console).

What I think some of the problem is that we're seeing a lot of people who are advanced lighting users or those with advanced needs who are trying to take the inexpensive route by going with MyDMX. Bottom line is that as great of a product that MyDMX is, there already exists BETTER software, albeit at a price that matches the more feature-laden software.

SerraAva is using more advanced consoles. With such higher costing gear comes many more features. It's not fair to compare MyDMX to a console worth a few thousand dollars. While there may be a few little things MyDMX can do better, overall, those higher end consoles are gonna smoke MyDMX. You get what you pay for.

Jingles is supporting the Elation Compu Live product, which is really oriented more towards not just those who want an alternative to a console, but also for those who need a lot of auotomation and syncing, especially to pre-recorded music. More money, more features. That's how it goes.

A lot of MyDMX users are musicians. Musicians are typically broke as hell. They can't afford expensive lighting consoles or Compu Live. They are hoping that MyDMX can resolve all their needs for lighting. It can't. It can do a lot.

What people need to do is research their product. It's not enough to trust music store sales people. There is so much product they can't learn it all, it's impossible. I won't work in a music store as I won't stand behind crap, which a lot of it is. How can people keep up with the constant in and out and change? Some can, I can't. It is ultimately up to the future users to get self motivated and start doing things like hit forums or ask questions or doing more than just reading the box.

While I know how to pull miracles, I also know my limitations. I can get really creative and make a lot of other things happen, even with MyDMX. But, users need to listen to some of the ideas of users like Jingles and SerraAva, mainly since they have some alternate experience. Jingles comes from a good background with Compu Live. SerraAva, well, I don't know his whole story, but he's got a lot of higher end console experience for sure. I'm sure he also has a good deal of software experience. Couple this with what I offer up and what other end users are sharing, I bet 95% of client concerns could be addressed and therefore help consumers may informed and wiser purchases.

The resources are out there for people to take advantage of. People just need to learn to use the tools available to them.

Hey Chris, guess what I do is kinda up in the air, lol. I am a full time lighting designer as well as A/V tech, working on things from theatre shows for high schools/colleges/community/regional and local dance companies all the way up to large rock and roll shows for national acts. I actually am working a show this week for Day 26 and Saves the Day. I even poke my head into bars once and a while and do lighting for cover bands when I am bored, really really bored that is. Also do a bunch of private parties and mega proms.

The other major thing I do is a lot of corporate work. Companies like Locke Heed Martin, Wyeth, Penske, FedEx, Samsung, etc etc. Also do a lot of political stuff. If you followed the election stuff this past year, chances are you have seen my work and not even realized it (the stuff on CNN mainly). A lot of what I do, I can't really talk about due to the nature of a lot of the things I see/hear on these jobs. The theatre/rock stuff however, I can share all day long.

Oh, sorry if it seems like I am ripping you in the last couple of replies I wrote today. Didn't mean for them to come across that way. Realized they sounded harsh after I went back and re-read them. Sorry again.

I'm going to spent a little more time making the FOH/Tech seat. You know, the heavily padded one with a hole in the middle. The hole is there so we don't have to get up off our seats to pull a miracle out of our butts to make things happen. I'm all into efficiency.
