I was just about to make a thread like this. Don´t want to hijack your thread or anything but I have the same problem. I bought a SDJ-1 and got that Transcend 1 GB card with it. I contacted the American Audio support in Europe to get the latest firmware and I allso sent a question about that card I should buy for my SD-1.

quote:

By the way here is a another question. Mostly is my mp3-files ripped at 192 kbps so what kind of SD card is required? I noticed that the SD card I got with the SDJ-1 is a Transcend 1 GB card and so far it works great. Would this work?
http://www.mycom.se/product_info.php?cPath=951&products_id=54583 Or do I need a faster card? Like http://www.amazon.com/Transcend-TS4GSD150-150X-Secure-Digital/dp/B000BR3OHI.

and the answer I got was

quote:

All SDcards are supported (till 4 GB) except SDHC Sdcards.
I would advise http://www.mycom.se/product_info.php?cPath=951&products_id=54583
We advise to use Mp3 files 128 -320Kbps.

So I did what I was told to do and bought 10 (!) 4 GB Transcend cards and started to organize my music because of the answer I got from the guy at support. And suddenly the problems started. Frowner

I sent a e-mail to support and got yet an another firmware. It didn´t work.

quote:

I installed the firmware you sent me (version 17.99 is now installed) but still the slot 1 (cardreader) don´t want to work properly. Sometimes it hangs up the reading of the card so I´m forced to change to slot 2 and then try to again. And now when I use the "jogwheel" to slow down a song the BPMcounter won´t react and go down (both on slot1 and 2). Frowner I´m getting really frustrated because of this problem.

My problems are:

Slot1 can´t read my SD card most of the times. This happends even on startup. If there is cards in the machine 99,9 % of the times slot1 won´t read the sd card!
BPMcounter wont go down then I slow the song down with the "jogwheel".
Sometimes the SDJ-1 have trouble reading my SD card when I try to changes dir/song and on the display it reads INSERT CARD. I use this card that you recommended: http://www.mycom.se/product_info.php?cPath=951&products_id=54583

Finally I sent it back to the shop I bought it from. When I got it back it work better but it´s still can´t read from start up from the first cardreader. It´s still can´t. If I turn on my SDJ-1 with two 4 GB SD-cards in it it will load the secound card only. I need take out the first card and insert it again and sometimes it won´t read until a few tries. Same thing happeneds with my 1 GB Transcend card I got with the SDJ-1. Frowner I now have firmware 16.99 and yesterday the pitch didn´t work and at one time it stopped completely.

Can it be the SD-cards?

What card to you other guys and gals use?

What is the formatting of the card? Is it NTFS? Mac?

Most prefer to be formatted with Fat32(compatible with darn near everything Win 98 and up, even Macs and read and write to Fat32 formatted media).

Does the SDJ-1 have a format card feature?

Sorry for not downloading a manual.

In my case, I prefer to be cautious. If I'm going to try something, I try with one. If that works, then I go bonkers and spend like mad. In my case, it was a digital camera, but since the prices were so cheap on 4GB cards, I bought 2, then those worked good so I bought 6 more. Better in this case than fewer 16GB cards because my wife was taking my good camera over-seas and that would mean if some images got corrupted, there would be less overall data loss.

In your case, you're going for a similar concept.

THen again, maybe it's the card reader interface itself? But you did an exchange and have the same issue, which is somewhat unlikely. This points back to the card, even though others have reported no problems. But all your cards do it, which suggests that either you got a defective run of cards(I've seen defective runs of mainboards due to some faulty component batches), or else then the problem points back to the unit again.

I do see a firmware mismatch issue between you and someone else. Are you positive you're running latest firmware? Try having the unit itself format the cards if at all possible. Also:

With these new memory cards I bought(SDHC cards, SanDisk, 4GB, BTW, in case anyone cares), they all came with a USB card reader. My SanDisk ImageMate 8 in 1 USB 2.0(SDDR-88) card reader DOES NOT like these new cards. I have to use the included card reader. SInce I have so many, I keep one plugged into my main workstation's USB hub, another in my camera bag, and one with my laptop.

Don't worry about "thread hijacking". This was an old thread so it may have been best to start a new one, but since you can relate to it, it makes more sense to continue this one instead.
First of all thanks for the fast reply Chris. Smiler

Well I really don´t know what kind of format it is on the card. I bought it from the swedish onlinestore [ULR=http://www.mycom.se/product_info.php?cPath=951&products_id=54583]Mycom.se[/URL]. On the webpage there is nothing about any format and unfortunaltly I´m away from home working and can´t look into this matter until this weekend. Frowner But I get back to you I promise. Wink

Well I thought I was cautuis enought because I asked the support guy, I thought that surely he whould know that´s was best for the machine.

Well I just called the retailer and he said I got a brand new machine lst time but he said the cardreader may been broken because of the rough egdes of the Transcend cards. But he would get back to me later today about changing the player yet again. He allso adviced me to try SanDisk cards instead. He had have more costumers having problems with there SDJ-1. He even said that he would try to get me that new SDJ-1 with SDHC instead. I really like the service at that store. Smiler

I´m gonna buy a SanDisk card when I get home on friday.

Just wanted to be sure. Wink
Well here is an update of my Transcend problem. I got a call from the store and he said that I could return the SDJ-1 and they would send me a new one. I told him yet again about my 10 (!) cards that I had bought and he would ask the retailer if I could get something in return.

I said I would like the new SDJ-2 instead. He calls back in a few minutes and say that the retailer had said that the cards can damage the machine but they wanted me to pay the rest of the money to get a SDJ-2 but now the storeowner says if I pay for the shipping he would pay the rest! Now that´s great service.

So now I do my mixes on a SJD-2 instead and I use a WD passport USB harddrive (160 GB) instead of the cards. It works great. I never ever gonna use SD cards again.
