encountered a strange phenomenon today. some burnt cds were not taken by my ps 2. some older ones still worked. but that never happened before. does anybody know about that behavior????? any fix for this?
Have you tried the same CD's in another CD player? Like your car? The CD's that may not read may have what some people call laser rot. It is caused by burning to fast, or from the laser burning to "hot" (ie. the laser has to read the die and determine how hard it should burn into the CD), or not "hot" enough. Are these CDR's a different brand than the older ones? Are they a different die color? I have been burning CD's since '94 with an old 2X Memorex burner on Ricoh Gold discs. I still have many of those old Ricoh's that will read on everything to this day. I have experimented with just about every brand of burner, brand of CDR, burning speed, and color die used on the CDR, and yes each of these items matter. Give me some more info.

Dead on info, Stevie Ray. Burn as slow as you can too. Do not let your software automagically pick the speed for you. Burn at 2X if you can, or 1X if possible. Buy high quality CD-Rs. Not the 50-spindle for $15 at Wally World.
well i burn the cds with the same speed , most of time 2x, yesterday 1x, so it is at the slowest speed. i use the same brand for almost one or two years. worked perfectly so far. funny thing the third cd i burnt yesterday with the same files worked at last. but some of the older ones did not work before the same day but worked ok all the time before.
