PocketScan or ScanTron

The main advantage of the pocket scan is small size and amperage draw. If that is not important I would go for the ScanTron. When I shot the video, I didn't know they were so inexpensive. I was very impressed with them

If power draw isn't an issue, I'd say go with the Scan Trons. They can also turn into color changers if you upgrade to better scanners down the road. They're cheaper, too.

in the long run thr tron series are the best buy. as They have more control in brightness and features than the pocketscan.

I would go witht he pockets, though I never seen the scans in person yet.

i would go with ScanTron, if size dosen't matter just like support said..just because they are probably a littel brighter

The Scantrons are aewsome!!!!! I saw a demo of them a local dealer and they are awesome! They are really 2 lights in one. Thepockets are coll too...but for the price of the scantrons and the brighntess and the features...I would go witht them!

trons are brighter. If you want something small, go with the pockets. But you will be happy with the trons.

I doubt the Scan Trons are very much brighter. The Pocket Scans' gobos are smaller, so the light is focussed into a smaller beam. I know the brightness of Mighty Scans and Pocket Scans are roughly the same, so I would bet Scan Trons are roughly the same too.

I wish American DJ would give photometric data on their lights.

Feature-wise, One very nice thing on the Pocket Scans is the speed adjustment. It is a feature that is usually only found higher-end fixtures. You can also put it in audio mode via DMX.

I'd still go with the Scan Tron...unless you can find some used Mightys...now THOSE were awesome lights!

Pocket Scan 100watt bulb. . .
Scantron/Rollertron/Colortron (scan/roller w/o head) 250watt bulb. . . it's bigger, brighter and has very clean dichroics. . . . and a lower M.A.P. of $329
They have been on where I currently work, DAILY, running through the DMX SOLO/Trom, and I've yet had to change a bulb, fuse, or had any issues at all for 4 months. . . .realize that they are on pretty much from 10 am - 8 pm every day, aside for those few minutes we show some other lighs off. . . .they have performed flawlessly. . . . .and side by side, yes you can tell how much brighter than the pockets they are

You mentioned you can put the pockets in sound active from DMX, can I do this with the trons?

I was thinking If I couldn't, I could just shut the power off on the dmx controller so the trons would loose the signel and start to run in sound active. Would this work?

Yes the trons, with or without the DMX solo will run sound active.

so if i was using something like the operator or show designier, how would i put it in sound active

u can put them in sound active by disconnecting the dmx cables or turning them off.

A quick question for DJ Madness...

What exactly DOES the speed adjustment on a Pocket Scan do? I've been futzing around with a set for a couple weeks now but haven't exactly figured out what it controls. Can you (or anyone else out there) please clarify?

The speed adjustment (channel 6 I think) sets how fast the mirror will pan/rotate, and when set to 255, it becomes sound activated for just the movement, as in you can still choose color/gobo/shutter/laser.
