PocketScan LED Lamp Replacements?

Well my question for you is. The pocket scans are rated at what about 150 Watt just for the lamp. What are you planning to do with all the extra power? Is it simply just going to not be used? No. The extra power will probably blow your new LED bulb up. Or you could more likely damage your unit somehow. I also have someone from service stopping by to comment on this. Let's see what they say.

This has not yet been tested. A note to anyone who tries let me know your results.

BTW Jingels the lamp will not blow up. The extra power is simply not used. The only issue would be the style of transformers that are used could damage the led lamp. Like I said let me know you findings if you try it.

Both seem to keep the general form factor of the stock bulb, have a VERY NARROW beam (~40°
), and are "dimmable" (50~60Hz), which should help counteract the transformer variance in the PocketScan.

And yes, I understand this is of my own volition, kills my already dead warranty, yadda yadda yadda...

If you can pore through the specs (linked on the product page) and confirm what I'm seeing (that they SHOULD work, both physically and electronically), I'll take it as a peer-to-peer comment and not a promise or guarantee from ADJ of support.

I will admit that if you could take old ADJ gear and add new led bulbs it would be a Very cool feat to do. Good luck Sean. Take some pictures and post them on this forum perhaps. Keep us posted.

I'd be a bit more cautious. Instead of playing "try and see", call up the good folks at Support or service and have them properly advise you as to which replacement bulb you should be purchasing.

Just because the fixture is discontinued doesn't mean the bulbs are. So many lights by so many brands use the same bulbs. It's somewhat nice that they all do this.

I do agree with Jungles(oops, I meant Jingles), it would be nice if all it took to upgrade was to put in an LED bulb or two. I don't like the LED Sunray, and would prefer to "refit" my Mystic, Vertigo and Sunray III with LED's, maybe my Rover II, Reflex, Barrel Flex and Electra too, and 2 other low-end fixtures.

That and affordable, dimmable LED bulbs for my Par38s!

I was working with one of my clients in regards to their network security platform at the time.

Back to the grind. I'm doing 1/4" reel to reel tape transfers. I have a 10.5" master reel half track to transfer right now. I'm waiting for the deck to come to operating temperature before I clean the heads and rollers. I'm expecting to be blown away by the contents. I better be, moving this Otari MX-50 ain't no fun task! This item is built like a tank, but sings like a bird.

I like ProTools, and I like reel to reel analog. I can't understand how we tolerated cassette tape. Sure ain't convenient to listen to in the car though!

While I do the transfers, I've got a web browser open and am checking out Elation and ADJ fixtures. I should be checking out microphones, such as the Sennheiser wireless.

I know this thread is kind of old, but did anyone have any success with this? I have a bunch of mighty scans that I want to do this with. Technically I don't see why it wouldn't work As long as the mounts are the same, the rated voltage is the same, and the lumins are high enough they should work just fine. I might give this a try.

The output was just not where it needed to be. Even though the lumens were rated fairly high, actual output was not the same as an incandescent. Perhaps if this was used in a very dark venue, you could argue for doing this as a heat/power savings, but for my purposes, it was not effective.

Do you recall what the watts and lumens rating of the LED bulb you used was? The highest I could find googling was around 300 lumens. But then finally I came across a company in china that makes them up to 700 Lumens, using 8 watts. I bought a bulb ( $47 including shipping ) , and it should be here within a week or two.

The venue I am running these lights in is a stripe club, so if anything we don't want too much light. Plus for private parties when we have house DJs playing, and I program the lights for a house / trance mood. Its pretty dark in there, so If the light is somewhat close to the stock bulbs we are set.

If this bulb does the job, the next task will be to convert the Martin 812 fixtures, which will not be an easy task.

I will post pictures on my blog when the bulb gets in.

The LED bulb just arrived today. I will be doing the installation on Friday. I will take pictures and video of it. The overall Construction of the bulb is very nice, with a thick heat sink on the end. Took about 2 weeks to arrive from China.
