Just viewing the ADJ web site and looking at new models, namely in the LED area. With my success with the 64 LED Pros, I'm considering changing what I've got with LED versions, including going to the DMX version of what I currently have as hi-tech effects.
First off, Electra and Reflex. These have been "crowd faves" of mine, but without fog, these are rather crummy lights since you can't enjoy those beams. Not saying I dislike these lights. I like them. Low draw. But, going LED, I think is nice. ALSO, going DMX is a nice improvement as well.
This is where I would like to comment:
Since both the Electra and Reflex, as well athe Rover II and Barrel Flex all use Dichoic glass, I'd rather see the LED versions do the same thing. Why? I don't really need the total color control. But, the main thing I miss it the spinning.
The new Sunray? Sorry, it looks cheap. I'd rather have seen ADJ re-fit the Sunray series with DMX brains and a super bright LED fixture. Give me control over dimming direciton of rotation and spin speeds.
The new LED Mystic:
Like with the Sunray III, would have prefered a refit with an LED element and DMX brains, rather than a total redesign. I liked what the old one did. Not feeling "the love" with the new one. It also looks cheap. It isn't, but it looks that way.
Now, having just seen the X-series YouTube video, I can see the logic behind using a color wheel over RGB, so argument well taken. Although, you could use a focusing lens and mirror to get the same results with RBG LED's The only thing I don't like with these is no gobo spinning, which is a must have. Since these would be more accent lights, gobo movement is necessary. The color wheel isn't a negative since I can always go "matching or complimentary" to my wash color, or go white.
I think sometimes moving forward is great. ADJ's taking the lead there. But, at the same time, why mess with a good thing? Save some classic fixtures by simply redesigning the insides and NOT the outside.
I have a feeling there is a LOT ADJ isn't telling us. And by that, I mean there are probably plans for new and exciting products that are currently under development I do look forward to see what the near future has in store for us end users.
In the mean time, I have to ponder what new lights to get. More 64B LED Pros for sure, and possible something to replace my Color Fusions with. Business right now doesn't demand I invest in "dancing lights" right now, but rather wash fixtures, cans and some movers for accent.
