Just picked up a solo unit from ebay which it was believed the lamp or mic board was bad, well the lamp is good, but I can't determine 100% if the mic system is working or not.

Here is how I have tested so far:
No music and music with dip #10 pulled as the manual suggests. This way it will every other time it is powered up go to the start up cycle, mirror moving, light runs for about a minute. Or, it will just shake the mirror a bit and no light, though both ways the light gives a quick orange flicker before either working or not.

No music and music with dip 1 pulled for slave - mirror shakes light flickers once and nothing.

Music with dips 10 and 6 pulled (don't know why I picked these, just guessing around for a system scan or something workable). Like this it will sometimes run for about 2 minutes with what seems to be a programmed movement rate. Fiddling with the sensitivity knob (speed or sound, I really don't know which at this point as there is no label or info in the manual I could find), it will turn off, and with enough moving it around flip it back on.

I should have plenty of sound playing for it to pick up with my KRK's bumping at a fairly loud level, I have let it sit on the floor as well as mounted it up between them, and really seen no difference in performance.

It could be the sound/mic board is goofy, but honestly I don't really need it to sync to sound at this point, it would just be a cheap back up light. I am getting some deluxe 250's, but I don't think this will slave to a 512 signal though I may be wrong. Is there any way I can run this thing on programmed movements, or mic into it to bypass the built in mic maybe to get some more testing on on this thing?

I don't want to purchase any parts for it until I have a clue on what is wrong with it in the first place, so if anyone could toss me some feedback, or give me some more ideas to test out that would be fantastic, there must be more options with 10 dips and only 2 used according to the manual I would sure think.

Also I am not afraid to tear this thing down to the bones to test or do modifications (I am considering putting the innards of my moonflower inside and letting the mirror scan that if nothing else.

Thanks for any help in advance guys,
Justin

Well I got back home again, and decided to dink with this light some more.

Now all I get out of it is a quick flash (just enough to make a light orange, and the mirror does the few wiggles and then nothing. It bumps some sort of pressure switch and stops moving, this switch is sitting in such a way that the mirror can only move in one direction all the way around, not sure if this is how it was designed or not.

I outputted my mixer into the 1/4" jack to see if that made any difference, and it sure doesn't.

So I opened up the case to check all the connections, and they all appear to be good. I pulled and replaced them all to be sure, testing gave the same result. PICs seem to be tightly in there, there is no scarring on the boards that I can tell, so I don't think anything is blatantly fried.

I also tried switching the connector from M1(PR3) to the empty M2(PR4) which runs directly to a pic and the light would not even initiate other than the fan. Didn't get any change from adjusting the pot on the main board either.

Double checked the fuse, that's ok yet.
Fan works slick, that's a bonus anyhow.

Well I hope my descriptions can help someone help me out.

Thanks again.
Justin
Got bored today and plugged in the light to see if there was any miraculous change.

First power on it fully cycled through the start up routine with both the light and mirror, 1 minute. Then out. Tried throwing on some tunes to see if it would kick in and got nothing else.

Powered down for a minute, and switched it back on and it was back to the mirror doing its wiggle wiggle, the light did the short orange flash, and then nothing after that.

Any ideas guys?
I emailed support as well while waiting to get verified, but I am really in no terrible hurry with this light.

I bought it broken with the hopes of reviving it and learning about light repair, I will probably pull out the testers to see what I can learn one of these days, but being that everything functions sometimes, I am not sure I will get much out of that testing. Just figured this would be a pretty basic light to start learning the insides of a dmx fixture.

I'll just keep posting my tests and results in hopes that it can help someone help me learn about this stuff a bit more.

One thing I am curious about though is when I had the box open I didn't see any sort of module for sound input ie a board with a mic or any such thing. I didn't do a full disassemble of the unit, so that might be hidden in there, but following wires around didn't seem to reveal it to me at all.

I don't really want to replace everything inside for cost reasons, but one board wouldn't be the worst if that's what it came down to, otherwise I was flopping around with the idea of mounting the mirror onto my led moonflower and wiring it in so it would spin with a switch, or just sit and reflect.

My other thought was tossing in a newer board with dmx 512 and switching the halogen out for led, but that might even be more hassle than it is worth, so for right now going to keep on trying to get it running at some sort of functional.

Thanks for replying too and letting me know that you are still active on this forum, gives me a good amount of hope we can get this thing doing something fun.
Thanks for getting to me Service Boss.

I just got my Deluxe 250 beasts in today and apart from UPS not understanding the concept of holding onto a box while transporting and pushing the sides of my cases in, these monsters seem to be functioning just fine.

So tomorrow sometime I will make a couple attempts to run the quick scan as a slave to each of them to see if that results in any improved results.

I am hoping for the best here, seems like it should work as it intermittently runs on its own, though I suppose it is still controlled by whatever on-board sound mic it has which would be my other thought.

I will let you know how tomorrows test fares when I get the results.
