I have just got into DJing and I want to add some lights. I have no clue where or what to begin with. I have looked on EBAY and other sites and read as much as I could on some of the light package deals but I am hesitant. I have approx a 1000 dollar budget. Is there anything as far as lights that will give the crowd the "wow" factor for that sort of money. I like the DMX controlled lights but again, just when I decided on a package deal I read a review that was slamming the very lights I was about to purchase. I play mainly pubs and because I live in Myrtle Beach SC, lots of bikers (southern rock and country rock). Fog machine? Scanners? Fixed lights? Any suggestions? And if I come off sounding like a Nu B it's because I totally am. Thanks for your help.

hey dan welcome to the forum! jingles here and i try to answer all the lighting questions i can so here goes. look at the scan tron 250 from adj. most packages come with some typ of controller but to me you will still be somewhat limited with the controller it comes with. i would buy a nice set of lights and then a different controller like a dmx operator or magic 260 or something. don't know if u really need a strobe as most scanners and moving heads can strobe aswell. and some people find strobes annoying if left on for more than 5 second intervals. smoke machines yes. but make sure you will not set off any fire alarms. if you need anything else or need me to elaborate any more please just ask. i don't mind a lot of questions and thee is no such thing as a stupid question! peace! jingles!! p.s. if u want to click the link at the bottom of my post and join up @ that forum aswell. very good dj'ing forum! check it out!
Don't equate DMX fixtures as the only things taht can use DMX.

Using power, dimmer, relay and switching packs, you can use less intelligent fixtures(like plain ParCans) and gain control over them. The hi-tech effects can be power cycled on and off through power packs.

You could go with a DP-DMX20L and 4 extension cords(one per channel) and a trussing system(or pair of T-Bars). Put Par56's on each channel and on each side of the truss(or T-Bars), for a total of 8 Par56's. Gel as follows: Red, Blue, Green and Open or Yellow(I like to go Yellow, don't know why). Using a simple DMX controller, you can now color mix. However, a better solution would be to use a second dimmer pack for the other side of the stage instead of dragging or flying 4 extension cords and program them identical.

However, this is good for live performers and karaoke. If you want your audience to have a wow factor, the answers are limited by your imagination and ultimately your budget. You can save money by getting a DMX controller and dimming/switching packs and some non-DMX fixtures. If you want to spend maybe around the same, you can get DMX fixtures, although this may cost more, but gives more functionality.
