The octopods have a central brain that 1 dmx cable plugs into. You can still address each of the 8 lights independently (48 channels total). Also for the Octopod 80's there is a cable per light from the brain (not daisy chained). These do provide power however, so 1 plug for 8 lights (90watts total). I run 2 trees w/ 4 lights on each (sides of the stage) and I would rather run 4 cables that are ziptied together from one tree to the other than to have to run cables between each light and provide power for them on both sides of the stage. The Octopod 30's I believe are daisy chained (and include power).

Not sure about brightness between them. The Octopod 80's are great for smaller/medium stages, and I run a tracpod 30 as well (for the drummer) when I use my truss.

Ok, that does make sense. But, I have a club that is basically a 50 by 25' rectangle I want to be able to spray the walls with color and maximize my coverage area. Should I go with some of the track pods also? I take it the whole place needs to be painted white also if I want to get a nice shade of blue on the walls.
Just like pickin your brain
If it were a club and a permenent install I would go with the Octopods or even the Riva's (same light but recesed into the ceiling). The setup will be a bit less because you dont need to supply power to all of the fixtures. The cables that come with the octopods is about 9' I think, then you can get a 15' extension as well. So I would order a few of those as well. Its a 4 or 5 pin connection thats keyed so its only slides in 1 way (both sides are the same, just has a notch so the pins line up correctly), then the collar spins to thread onto the light to lock it in place. They do have fans, but generate barely any heat, but will need a little bit of space behind the fixture (a few inches should be good I would think).
