I have been djing a while now and have a basic light show but I want to add some pizzazz to my show and after looking around at all the intelligent lighting options and prices my head is swimming with all the possibilities. I have read through the faqs and everyone seems to have some DMX experience where I have none so I am going to lay out the question like this.

Want to add to my existing show
I am not familiar with DMX but would like to learn
Willing to go as high as $2000 (would like to spend less if possible).

I am envisioning having a system that will have nightclub style effects, the will be able to strobe, and during a slow song I can have a couple of the fixtures focus on the mirror ball and maybe slowly fade through its colors.

Any recommendations?

Thanks for any input.

Ya, buy the pocket scan system Promo, its 1199.99 or something, everything you wanted to do , you can with these lights, I have some myself and they are great, and ignore the 100 watt bulb cause they look like a 250, ASK ne one. Get a solo with it Big Grin it is not a bad unit for pre programmed.

Or you can look into the scan tron system, you can do everything that you wanted to do,,, I am little effi with the slow scan though so maybe someone else can comment on that.

Thats all I suggest.... well that I really want to suggest.

Try this stuff out.

I'd really try to stay away from the DJ Scans (event the 250's) for a few reasons. One, the motors are very choppy. Also you CANNOT change the color or gobo when the lamp is off. There is no separate shutter either so there goes the nice strobing effect. I would also reccomend the pocket scan system not only because of all the nice features, but they are extremely small and lightweight. They make a nice portable light show. One question, what do you currently have? Smiler Cool
... I forgot about the promo packages... They have a ROLLERTRON/SCANTRON PROMO for only a few hundred more. It uses a 250W bulb (150 more than the Pocket Scan). They are also very verstatille it's a 2 in 1 that can convert from a scanner to a color changer. I think they have excellent optics. Take a look at them, you will be impressed.
i have two pockets, one octobeam, one minigressor, one saturn four, one dmx operator II, which will take you about a week to master, really two days once you get the hang of it. dmx programing is not that difficult once you get the hang of it. I'm still learning how to make the pockets circle the room opposite to each other. i did manage to get them to circle in one direction. one of my programs consist of the spot on the wall changing to all the colors of the pocket 15 and then all the gobos, in the gobo show, i have the two pockets cross the room on every change thinking about going to redo the same effect for each color change anyway that takes up bank 1,2,3 of six banks banks 5,6 holds the strobe effects in all the possible colors. so you see what you can do with the pockets are endless, not to mention you can use one as a spot for your mirror ball and another to highlight a singer or speaker or whatever you like. by the way i'm a mobile d.j. k.j. i like to highlight the singers make them feel like they are proforming at an elaborate show. which they are.
Hello everyone and thank you for all some really good advice, based on everything I have been reading I am going to get a pocket scan system to start out and instead of the solo, get a Stage Setter 8, and 2 DP-DMX20L dimmer packs to use my current pars and special effect lights and maybe a little fog machine to really set the whole thing off. Keep in mind, Being a DJ in N. Idaho means you just have to have loud speakers and plenty of rock and country. A light show like this, as minimal as it is, will leave them thinking they just walked out of some big city club. Thanks again for the help and if anyone sees a serious flaw with the parts I just listed please feel free to e-mail me directly.
