Its so, so ::cries:: Beautiful! Seriously, That is like, a perfect combo of lights. Suggestion: You prolly know this, but do what most clubs do, they switch from one set of lights, to another set back and forth, to beats of the music. Example: Have your color125's on, and then the next 20 seconds or so, switch to your Ultra's, or your fasinator's. A lot of switching/blackout makes shows have a more flashy look, and it makes it look like everything is working together. Like, if you play a lot of trance, switch from the Photon to the Tempest, and back and forth. One last question. How the hell do you mount your tempest? its like 50lbs!! im really suprised that your truss isnt bending! What kind o' truss is it?

Hmm, maybe because I work....A new idea to some here. I average 3 gigs a month, plus I work a part time job that averages 100 hours a month. I have 2 LJ gigs alone next moth, plus 2 djing gigs, so I am working, and being paid well, but are you.... Red Face
FInally a mobile DJ with a descent looking light show........

Finally a mobile DJ who is willing to put a little money into his light show........

Finally a mobile DJ who isn't going to jump for the first cheap wanna be intelligent light that promises it all and ends up looking like **** even though I warned them........

Nice

Umm . . . skillz, great lights. However in a few of those pics the rooms look rather small, when in small rooms you dont want to blast every little corner with light, it doesn't look right. you can't treat every bedroom as a 10,000 square foot dance club. But no need to be nasty, I would just advise against having ALL your lights on at the same time in such small rooms

as good as you see his setup is how good bisuness could be (i don't know if it is for him or not)

most mobile dj's think they need intells dmx all this high tech stuff which they don't. You only think you do. effect lights with tons of beams look better than a $1000 intell with one beam(like a scanner) Unless your really into lighting one should not really get too intelligent with his or hers light show if all you want it to do is impress the client. Buying effect lights makes it cheaper which means more money for advertising.

him^ on the other hand is doing light jockey gigs so i see how this setup is a good choice.

But don't get me wronge I am saving up for a fully intell show too. But effect lights as suited for most dj's who don't care too much for lighting but want to impress a client.
Ok, then tell me how you highlight the grand entrance with those effects lights? And do they light up the toasts and cake cuttings too? I don't know any effect lights that can be used as a follow spot...do you? And how do you highlight their first dance with 4 white tunnels of light ending with the bride & groom dancing where they all form into one making for an outstanding photo op and a lifetime picture in their wedding wedding album?

Heck, I could go on & on...and you're right..."most" don't need them...leave these intells to the true professionals who offer superior service at superior prices... Eeker

Now stepping off my soapbox...I couldn't disagree with you more about this. Look at virtually ANY presentation today and what do they all have in common? Intelligent lighting programmed to augment their presentation or production. I look at my receptions as a production, a true once in a lifetime event for these folks. Given that, it only seems logical that the addition of good properly integrated intelligent lighting just further adds to this entire presentation...I do much more than show up and push buttons...and I'm paid for this level of service too!

Skillz has an outstanding system capable of lighting up a decent sized area to be sure...but to be fair, many of us are capable of running much larger lightshows for a reception. I feel he's going about it the right way and he's maximiziing his investment by doing LJ work with his system and still able to use it for his DJ events as well....and give him time...I KNOW he's not done yet! Wink His business will only grow as customers find he can tailor his lighting to their needs...something effect lights are VERY limited in doing...and please note, he also runs effect lights as well for a complete wide ranging lightshow.

If you're ever in my area, I'd love to have you at one of my reception events and see just how incredible and effective intelligent lighting can be integrated into this type of production...I guarantee you'll come away with a complete new respect for intelligent lighting...they will do much more than strobe all around the room at a dizzying pace!

Hey Bob Dietrich, do you have a website with any pictures of your set up, I'd really like to see it. It's nice to see someone else here in the midwest running intelligent lighting. I just have a basic set up right now, 4 mighty's , 750 watt mega stobe, with fog and a 16" mirror ball. (I know, I need to add some effects lights) I can already brag about my show here though because hardly anyone is offering intelligent lighting here, and due to my superior programming Razzer I can do A LOT with the Mighty's and with the MIghty and Mirror ball combo! (by the way skillz I didn't notice any mirror ball in your pics, you might be of those who think mirror balls are old school, but you would be amazed at the effects you can get when you use scrolling gobos or colors on them with your scanners) Anyway, I was thinking of using mine for spotlighting the first dance too, I was curious, do you mark a spot and tell them do the dance there, or to you just controll the spot manually and follow them, and are you using just open white and are there any probs with washing out in the photos?

Planetd77,

I don't have a website nor even advertise anymore...all business is strictly word of mouth and I turn away quite a bit...I guess that comes with longevity (old age..LOL).

I can try to load a pic here of a gig I did last summer...unfortunately, it's just a static pic with no lighting shots...i don't have a digital camera and everything I take simply washes out the beams...however, the photogs with their professional gear and skill know what to do as I discuss how I highlight them during their first dance. I use 4 812's with the circle gobo in white. I also place a 1' X on the floor and ask them to try and use that area...it works extremely well! The pics I've seen have been phenominal and I have received many calls weeks after the reception when they get their wedding album and see some of the pics and how the lighting can really make a dramatic difference.

As you note, I also use the scanners to paint the mirrorball and will try to match bridesmaid colors when possible or a nice contrast to their colors if I can't match them.

Your lightshow sounds quite nice indeed! Before adding effect lights though, I'd strongly consider adding colorchangers first...it's simply amazing what you can do with 4 colorchangers and 4 scanners.

Finally, I did try to take some pics at a large corporate gig I did this month where I provided sound, lighting, video & live video for their dinner/presentation and also the DJ system in a adjoining room following the presentation...I should have these pics back in about a week and will try to post them.

Now, if I can just figure how to upload a pic onto this site....
Confused Confused

Oh yes, where about in the midwest are you located?

I wish I had that problem, although I've been DJing for many years, my Company is real new, and I could use all the business I could get! Too bad your not a little closer, I'd say send them my way!! By the way, I'm located in Indianapolis IN.

Yea, I've really been considering that as a posiblility too, especially after seeing some of Skillz pics. The club I used to program for in Daytona had 8 Scanners and 16 color changers, but the color changers weren't positioned in a way to get the best use out of them. (poor lighting design) They later took all that out an put 16 scanners in.

I don't know if you can actually upload a picture to the sight, they want you to put a link in where the site can pull the pic from. When I want to post a pic, I put in on my site and then pull the pic from there. If you can't get the pics on, you can E-mail them to me at platinumsounds@comcast.net so I can see them, and if you want, I'll post them here for you. Smiler
