Ok, I have tried to find what interface to buy.
I have an old ESI-M4U interface that have worked flawlessed with all my other gear until now.. I bought MyDMX and a Behringer FBC1010 with UnO firmware for controlling our lightning on stage. Yes, I should have done some research before.. Wink Now I really need some suggestions on what interface works with this box?
TIA. John

Define interface. Seriously.

I define a MIDI interface as a device that can connect externally to a computer. It can be via USB, 1394(A/B), serial, game port or even parallel. Of course, the big winner these days is USB for such functionality.

Are you referring to some sort of MIDI interface? If so, what OS are you using and how to do you intend to configure things?

There have been some inconsistencies with some interfaces and XP SP3 in my experiences, with M-Audio hardware, specifically the MIDISPORT 2X2 and the MIDISPORT 2X2 Anniversary Edition(which use the same driver in XP, Vista and Win7) I think the older one worked while the newer one did not.
However, in Windows7 Ultimate 64-bit, those problems went away.

Now, if we want to talk something like the nanoKontrol, yes, that works fine with myDMX. The driver is a bit wonky and you'll need to re-install it, but it should work. I used one for a while until it broke. I have a new one sitting new in the box it shipped in. I've been too slammed to get to it. My advise: buy a case to pop your slim controllers in or retain the packaging for transport to prevent stuff like faders getting messed up(which was my problem).

Another issue is that the MyDMX software is only going to look at ONCE MIDI source. I haven't tested to see if that means for example only INPUT A or only INPUT B on a MIDISPORT interface(which has 2 banks of MIDI IO for 32 total channels), or if that input means "We're only looking at one physical device". I find when I purposely start loading up my machine with MIDI gear, it becomes a crapshoot. A M-Audio Firewire 410 has a MIDI interface(with a JLCooper CS102 hanging off it). Tack on a powered USB Port, plug in a Korg nanoKEY, nanoPAD, nanoKONTROL, Akai LKP25, MIDISPORT 2X2, MIDISPORT 2X2 Anniversary Edition and a Novation Launchpad, it becomes a total crap shoot as to what is going to work.

Really, doing something like I just described is, while 100% within spec, is rather foolish. But MyDMX needs to have a function to say "this is the MIDI device(s) I am going to listen to".
Thanks both of you for your suggestions. I actually found an old entry in this forum (after I did my posting) that made me order a M-audio MIDIsport 1x1 USB. It seems to meet my needs. I have an old laptop, HP nw8440, that's going to have the myDMX and this M-audio interface and the Behringer FCB 1010 to control the scenes.
Can't wait to start practise on it. I also play keyboard, guitar and sing (not all at same time :-))

EDIT ----------------------

Ther's much joy in my bedroom! I saw there was a new version of controlsoftware on ADJ homepage. I downloaded it and my Behringer FBC 1010 can now communicate with myDMX via ESI-M4U midi interface. Yay! :-) There's also a clear MIDI command now!
Rock On! :-)

I have a almost the same problem...

I have a Allen & Heath 4D Midi Controller.
I use it with VirtualDJ on midi channel 8.
The A&H 4D has a shift function that lets you chance midi channels during dj'ing, so that you can have a new layer of buttons one midi channel below the one I use in VDJ (channel 7 in my case).

I thought i could use this to control Mydmx via the learn command, but nothing happens ??
It's like MyDMX doesn't see the midicontroller at all

Tried it with/without runng VDJ at the same time, but it's the same result.

What am i doing wrong, or am I missing something here ??
Tested on all 16 midi channels.... same result

No midi note recived in MyDMX, but every channel works in Virtual DJ.

Tested midi send command on every button/fader/knop from my A&H 4d with this: http://www.djpp.dk/Files/VDJControllDefiner.exe

A tool to make midi definitions for VirtualDJ, for controllers that not are predefined by Atomix.

With this you can se every note (both on/off) from every button on every channel..
While audio and lighting may co-exist in the same general area, they typically do not collapse int each other.

If you want to do stuff with a live band, you can trigger MyDMX scenes using a wide variety of EXTERNAL solutions. See other postings for details, but the short thing is "don't run your DAW/sequencer on the same machine as MyDMX if you're expecting them to work with each other".

MyDMX is a great product that can do a lot, including work with bands and serious shows. While I am mainly using Compu Show for my needs, I still fall back to MyDMX to handle bands as I have lots of fun scenes set up.
