I have the MyDMX 2.0 for Windows and have upgraded my entire theatre to Chauvet Slimpar 56 and Slimpar 64 RGBA lights. I have a bar of 8, then a bar of 5 mixed with halogens connected to dimmer packs, and then 13 along the back. The goal is to eventually expand the stage and remove the remaining halogens, but back to my question.. The first 8 lights all work fine with the MyDMX, they connect to the bar of 5 with halogen lights by 2 dmx cords connected to each other to reach the 9th Slimpar 64. When the DMX cord is plugged into that light the bar of 8 that work fine stop responding. None of the other lights will respond either, except for 2 random lights. All of the lights have been programmed to the right addresses and are daisy chained together. I am not sure what is wrong. I have all of the lights in the "universe" on MyDMX, they just won't respond! Like I said though, the first 8 all work fine when not connected with the remaining 24 or so. Any insight into why? Chauvet's customer service sucked and the poor AmericanDJ rep just didn't know. Side note: Although all the lights are on the right address they will still flash like they are on a stand alone mode and some wont even do anything.. Any help is appreciated, I have a show tonight so I am super desperate! Thanks for your time!

Hi New Tech. I am a user just like you but wanted to offer some suggestions. All of us have most likely ran into setup issues with tech gear at one time or another and with experience come to realize the importance of advance experimentation and debugging with systems. What looks feasible on paper sometimes winds up being problematic - so lead time in making changes is so valuable. With your situation - you mention the group of 8 working fine initially. Have you done the same with the other two groups/classes of lighting? Will dimmer packs/halogens work/respond if they are the only equipment connected with myDMX? In my system I have LED Pars and strips along with four Martin MX-4's. In my case, I kept running into random and unexpected responses or non-responses with the Martins. I tried using a terminator plug at the last fixture in the entire DMX chain and for a while that seemed to help, but not completely. In the end I wound up using an optical isolation device to keep the MX-4s separated but still on the same universe. I used an Enttec D-Split (other brands available to do the same thing). That worked for us. I have not tried as yet using myDMX for DMX controlled conventional lighting, but if the software library supports what you have you may have a situation of your universe not liking the mix of devices in the chain you created.
Initially, our dimmer packs weren't compatible, but we have ordered replacements for them that will be. I am just puzzled as to why- even though properly programed- the lights will behave as if they are on stand alone mode. They are all connected to the DMX line and programed, but they either don't respond at all or behave erratically. We made it through the show tonight with our 8 functional lights plus our spotlight. However, Monday we are redoing our entire system. We will find the source of our problem! Haha. This has been a crazy upgrade!

I have no issues on my Windows machine. Newtech take some time to get to know MyDMX. Its not as simple as one may think. I have had issues where nothing works, then I have to start over and unplug and replug MyDMX box back in and then its fine. A thing about light shows using this type of software/hardware is programming and getting to know the system before you attempt a show with it. /.02
