I have had success with the following:

MIDIMAN MIDISPORT2X2, which is now the M-Audio MIDISPORT 2X2

M-Audio Firewire 410, which is a 4X10 audio interface with integrated MIDI.

The Korg nano-series: KEY, PAD, KONTROL, which are USB to MIDI controllers but are single-ended and DO NOT allow MIDI intput/output from outside the unit.

There's really no reason why MyDMX would have a problem with a MIDI interface. It's not really choosy. If you have properly installed the MIDI interface, you should be fine.

First, are you using a hub on both your laptop and your computer? MyDMX HATES USB hubs. Don't use a USB hub, powered or otherwise.

Also, donwload MIDIOX and install it. It's free and it's a fantastic troubleshooting tool. Really, anyone of us using MIDI should have this available for troubleshooting.

Third:
How are you programming things? Perhaps you're not programming things, which is why you're having issues. MyDMX listens to the MIDI INPUT(must be a physical MIDI in port). Also, MyDMX MUST be the foreground application. Since you want to trigger scenes with your MIDI keyboard, you're already working in the prefered method for triggering.

I did a lot of the testing for MIDI stuff out "in the field" and reported back on this. Try reading in this area of the forum more, especially in regards to stuff I've posted that sound pretty announcement type in regards to MIDI. Sorry, but I'm getting tired of saying the same stuff over and over and over and over(and over) again. Forgive me for singling you out. It's not personal. On the positive side, at least you're brave enough to at least post and ask for help. I don't mind helping, just right now I had a long late gig(went out before the sun went down, came back as the sun came up...) so I'm pooped out.
Hi Chris thanks for the swift reply my setup is synth keyboard midi out to laptop>>to dmx lights
i can see my usb midi hub i know i works because i have used midiox to check the link never mind i am going to buy a basic usb to midi cable to give that a try i will Let you know how it turns out: Thanks to the team
Wel, maybe before you head out the door to spend money, I can help you out.

First, I want to know HOW you are programming your scene triggers. The problem could be as simple as "you're doing it wrong". It wouldn't be a first time a user has had this problem.

Regarding USB Hubs:

I had my three Korg nano devices plugged into a powered USB hub, and all were recognized and functioning properly. Using MIDIOX, it saw them. Using them with Sonar Home Studio 6, it again saw them. I even plugged in the MyDMX hardware into the USB hub and the OS recognized it. It had to re-install the driver to the port, but that's nothing I worry about. While MyDMX came up, it didn't work so well, so I exited and relaunched with the same results. I quit MyDMX, plugged the dongle directly into a USB port, launched MyDMX and it ran fine but it would NOT recognize any of the nano units.

Since MIDIOX says it works, it appears there's no reason to run out and buy a cable or anything.

So, please describe your method for programming triggers. MyDMX will NOT work with a keyboard until you've programmed the scene triggers AND MyDMX MUST be the foreground application..

You're doing everything else right. You're going keyboard to MIDI interface to USB on laptop, MIDIOX sees it. I think you're maybe not doing your trigger programming properly.
Hi Cris followed your recommendations started laptop with my dmx connected midi hub connected after that opened my dmx then turned on synth keyboard last and what do you know Everything works now I can trigger light scenes from a midi song (Automatically): Thanks for all the quick replys PS MY dmx has done everything I wanted!Ps there is one thing that would be helpful is to be able to start a step from anywhere in the scene without starting from the beginning But for the price you can’t complain thanks :Mike Harrison
