Mighty Scan and DMX Operator II

Whats everyone. I Have a Mighty scan and a dmx operator II. I have no experience with any itelligent lighting. Flipping switches is about it. I was hoping someone could give me help on setting this up. I read through the manual and set the channels. All the light does is the reset then turns the mirror down and turns to the left. If I set the dip switches on the light to stand alone mode it runs through a demo I believe.Thats about the most I have got out of it. Right now i am using a mic cable to try and run it. I don't know if that would be the problem or not. And do i need a return cable for it also? I know this is big request for help but any would be greatly apreciated
