By random data I mean: it sends random midivalues when rotating the knob.

Even just touching the knob slightly with my finger (not rotating it) generates all kinds of MIDI-values. I suspect there is some short circuit or loose contact somewhere.

At first I thought it might be a software (mapping) issue in Traktor Pro, but I get the same results when monitoring the values with a MIDI-monitor application: totally random values from low to high are being sent by the unit.

This results in the MIDI-gain function in the software (Traktor Pro) going crazy (flipping from -12 dB to +12 dB).
If you're concerned about your gig, why not run Traktor with the VMS4 as an external sound card, so that you use the gain, EQ and faders of the VMS4 instead of the software?

I mean, you have a mixer in the VMS4, why not use it? I don't get why people still use the software mixer when they have a real one.
Data T---
The VMS4 refreshes its CC values in a timed interval how ever this should not affect the value of a given knob. If you know it a particular knob that is trouble some changing value please call customer service US or Europe depending on your location. Could be bad brushing inside the knob causing the data to jump to what will be 00-127 if its being full on. Ever notice the LED turn of on it?
The LED is not turning on/off. It appears to act normal.

The upper row MIDI-log and master knobs feel really wobbly compared to the other knobs, which feel a lot more solid. I mean that the upper five knobs easily move up/down/sideways in the units case when using them.

These are the MIDI-values I get rotating the knob from 0 - 127:

I'll do my gig using some remapped controls and afterwards, the unit is being returned.

grooving DJ
I'll explain why not use mixer vms4 because the sound sucks,is much better to use traktor eq
for the problem of datucker
I recommend using Traktor autogain, tracks with autogain are all at the same volume and you do not need to use gain
to me the problem you face with gain did with sample knob,i returned back vms4 and did send a new
sorry for my english
Somthing among the lines of this problem happens to me too. The Volume knob in the sample box on the left is generating ramdom data alot of times, and i have tryed it with traktor and virtual dj, so i guess its not mappings but some kind of hardware faillure. I would like to ask something since we are on this matter, If i needa repair on my Vms4, where do i go for it, the place i bought it(Musicstore) or should i call AA for more info?
Thanks
