OK, here is how it works: I have one, it works. I know this.

You have up to 240 scenes available in the DMX Operator.

Hmmm, OK, so what's the problem? There are only 128 notes(0-127) in MIDI. No problem so far. But, if you want to access any scenes higher than this, well, forget it. It ain't happening. You can't map to higher values in MIDI, it's not possible.

You've got the concept down that is necessary: SCENES are necessary for MIDI triggering.

OK, so let's go through a few basics:
You set your MIDI channel on the DMX Operator, right? Whatever it is, it doesn't matter to me. BUT, it does matter to the DMX Operator because that will be the ONLY channel it will respond to(ah, yes, simplicity is so wonderful some times!!)

ADJ gives a very long chart of mapping scene number and banks to note numbers. This is rather necessary for quick access.

Most 61-note keyboards start at note 36 being LOW C. That means you're going to need to start at, if my math is correct, Bank 5, Scene 4.

I think what is happening is that you're trying to trigger scenes that do not have anything programmed to them.

I found the manual to be more than adequate for this application. I guess that must be all those years of non-stop usage of MIDI and applying it 16+ hours a day for MONTHS at a time for crap, must have been like 12 years living like that.

Now, you can remap keys, especially in many drum machines, to different note values. Many keyboards can be transposed and shifted. Some devices have limitations as to what notes they are going to be allowed to address DIRECTLY, which has no bearing on what MIDI notes they may accept and attempt to produce. For example, my 61-note Korg DS-8 starts at note 36 but WILL attempt to synth-out notes down at zero, but I have to say for the most part it doesn't do a great job way down there.

I would say do our programming for scene changes in Cakewalk/Sonar, then when you have the note on TIMING right, move the note to where you need it to be.

Have fun.
