I don't know why, but I did a search on midi joysticks and found something called midijoy.
I believe free prog to enable a gamers joystick to be used to control midi signals, I thought it might be able be setup to control moving heads.
Just a thought what are yours.

Thanks,
Jim

Well, I don't see why it wouldn't be a suitable controller for movers. The only down-side is that you'd have to assign it to the X and Y, and in the case of 16-bit fixtures, X and Y fine chanels would not be addressed. But that's probably OK. I can't see why this wouldn't work.

Similarly, I have a pad controller on my Korg nanoPAD that if MyDMX could work with more than 1 MIDI controller I wanted to do the same thing.

I think the MIDIJOY might a bit easier to use, but yo might want to disable to return to zero functions if it has them. Pad controllers OFTEN return to zero when you let go. That's sort of going away. SImilarly, my older Korg DS-8 has a joystick controller for pitch bend and timbre control. That would suffice as well, but why lug a 61-note keyboard out when a little device will work fine.

I gotta check that out and see about getting myself one of those!
Update:

You know, the only down side to MIDIJOY is if you have the wrong type of joystick. For example, my Microsoft Sidewinder with FFB that came with MechWarrior3 uses a gameport(15-pin I think DB-style). My laptop uses USB, as to virtually all my better computers I've built, and as I'm not gaming much these days, it's collecting dust and otherwise non-usable as a result.

But, now with this information, I can start looking at cost-effective durable joysticks for programming. The nice thing is this MIDIJOY software claims to work with pretty much any joystick and game controller.

Let's face it, it seems natural to control movers with a joystick or pad controllre anyways, and for me, the joystick seems a bit more natural and user friendly.

Just keep in mind, currently, MYDMX can only work with ONE MIDI device at a time on the USB. But, if you have a MIDI interface that is compatible, you can have whatever you want on the MIDI side of that interface. And lastly, right now, MyDMX only works with items that install as a MIDI device, not an AUDIO device(despite the fact it may be a MIDI device). So, this means that MIDIJOY, even if it doesn't work, is FREE, so worth a shot if you have the means to work with it.
