Hello All

Let's start off with three apologies:

1) I'm new here so, if I've started a new topic in the wrong place, sorry.

2) I'm posting a Technical Question when I would imagine that many of the technical ADJ people are busy at PLASA exhibition.

3) I'm English (but yay! I'm not too sorry about that)

I've just increased my arsenal of Megabars by 2, to 24 units. The latest 2 units have silver stickers on the back, just above the using rating plate, which says "IR On/Off".

I'm guessing the IR stands for Infra Red, and that there's some new mode which switches off the Infra Red Receiver in a megabar - A very useful state to have when the megabars are in slave mode, or when other infra red remote controls are going to be in use in the same room (as this makes all my RC bars flicker)

However, there's nothing on or in the box or instructions which tells me how to activate, or deactivate the IR on/off feature - if that feature is what I think it is.

Does anyone there in ADJ Tech land know what the feature is, perhaps confirming my #2 dream about the megabars, and how to use the feature.

(ok, if you're wondering, my #1 dream is that ADJ would release new firmware on the LED Touch controller to allow it to have a RGB RGB RGB mode so that it can treat a pair of megabars as 6 zones) - but hey, a guy can dream...

Sounds like you got 2 of these units. Mega Bar LED RC.
The instructions to turn the IR on/off are in the user manual on the product page from the link above.
How do they make your other units flicker? Or can you maybe explain that a little further?
About your number one dream: this will not happen because in short the RGB3C is just that: 3 DMX channels. nothing more or less. It is basically a 3 channel dmx controller designed around RGB control.
hope this helps.
Welcome to the forums.
Sincerely,
Hi James, thanks for the reply.

I've had a look through both the paper manual from the box and also the online manual - there's no mention of an IR on/off option.

My previous megabar RC purchases (a few each month for the last few months) havent had this new "IR on/off" sticker on them - and it's a pretty bold, very noticable sticker. My guess is that theres now something in the firmware which allows the user to switch off the infra red sensor on slave units to prevent accidental/stray IR remote control signals from a megabar remotes, jumping the slave bars out of slave mode. I just dont know how to activate the IR on/off switch/mode.

The flickering which I was refering to isnt related to the megabars own RC remote, but interference from other remote controls. For example: I often use a remote controlled video projector - when I'm pointing the remote contol for the projector up toward the prjector to adjust its settings, the megabar RCs flicker rapidly - almost strobing, and stop as soon as I let go. I've tried various other remotes too, such as LCD TV remotes, DVD player remotes, and they all cause the megabar RCs to pulse rapidly.

Theres good news though. I've found that if I gaffa tape a "tunnel" to the front of the non-ADJ remotes, I can narrow the spread of the RC IR beams, and make them only affect the intended equipment.

Also, the LED touch controller. It's a wonderful controller especially with its 3 timer settings etc. However, its more than just a 3 channel controller which you mentioned. It's got settings for 4 channel eg: RGBD (dimmer being the 4th channel) and also a 5 channel mode (RGBWD or RGBAD(White/amber & Dim) (cant remember now whether its white or amber)

This 3 channel, or 4 channel or 5 channel operation means that the stepping or gaps between zone 1, 2,3,4,5 & 6 is calculated correctly. eg: In 3 channel mode, the RGB fixture on zone 1 will have channels 1,2 & 3, the fixture of zone 2 with have channels 4,5,6 etc....

But when the LED touch is set into 5 channel mode, eg: RGBAD/RGBWD, then the fixture on zone 1 gets channels 1,2,3,4 &5, the fixture on zone 2 gets channels 6,7,8,9 & 10 etc...

What I was hoping for would be a 9 channel mode of RGBRGBRGB, when the fixture on zone 1 would get channels 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 & 9, the fixture of zone 2 would get channels 10,11,12,13 & 14 etc.

Hey Steve. when you add info to a topic please make another post as the info you add if you "edit" a post we don't get notified on because you edited an existing one. We only get emails for new reply's or topics. Thanks. We are gonna get the manual updated with the procedure for the Ir ON/OFF. In the mean time you will have to wait for the EU support member to post on this thread answering your other questions. And yes a lot of them are busy at PLASA this week. If you don't hear from anyone for a few days make a new post and I will get someone to answer you.
Sincerely,

Understood, thanks. Consecutive posts on forums are one of pet hates - where someone's posted something at say 8:01pm, then without any replies keeps "bumping" the post by adding a few extra thoughts at 8:03, 8:07, 8:15 etc - it's as though they want to keep their post bubbling at the top if the stack for an early answer - So, I was keen to avoid seeming to bump my own post :-)

Sure, there's no rush - ADJs stand was quite big at PLASA, (and about the only remaining stand at PLASA of interest to mobile DJs) so id imagine all the ADJ staff will be busy taking it all down for the next day or two.

I've sort of brought up two queries in one post here, what with the IR on/off feature, and the channel addressing on the LED touch with megabars, so if I do need to post again in a few days, I might open a new thread for the LED touch controller.

Don't get me wrong, I think that the megabars are great, and my favourite lighting purchase for several years.

Right no problem. The UK office to my knowledge isn't as "big" as the USA office, so they might not have all the resources we do to be able to reply to forum posts as fast as we do. Heck, I reply to posts faster than anyone in the USA office. It's probably due to the fact that I have no life of my own. Big Grin haha
We will do our best to get your questions answered and addressed within a reasonable time frame.
Sincerely,
