Total Newbie here, want to wash a white photobackdrop with variable coloured light. Was thinking a few megabars would do the trick? never worked with lights before, what do I need. Space to light is about 12'X12' white photo backdrop paper. Do I need controllers, cables, switch box, etc. what? would eventually like to add a truss system and multiple other lights like jellyfish, pin lights and gobos but not now. just basic wash of light now.

I own several Mega Bars and Mega Bar 50s (not the RC versions). I use the Mega Bars to up-light the wall behind my band and they work great. They put out a LOT of light and in any color you choose. I set them several feet apart and because they are just adding accents to the scene, I don't have worry about the less lit areas between the lights.

If, however, you are backlighting photographs and need a smooth, uniform color behind your image, I'm not sure you will be happy with these lights. They are less than 4' long and there is noticeably less light at the edges than across the middle of the bar. Also, there will be more light at the bottom of the back drop than at the top. Take a look at the lower left image on this page. If that kind of effect will work for you, these are great lights.

The Mega Bar 50 will give you twice as many "stripes" up the wall.

Sadly, I'm not aware of any better lighting solution for your situation. If you don't need as much light as the Mega Bar you could save a little money with a Mega Pixel Bar, but you would give up the remote control feature and would likely want to get a controller.
I actually already use these diffusers on all my ProPar 56 RGBs. I got them because some of the guys in the band were distracted by piercing nature of the individual colors of the leds. The diffusers really do help, but they don't really eliminate the problem. Each LED has an amazing ability to get through the diffuser with being affected all that much.

By this post were you suggesting that the difussers would eliminate the dark areas between the Mega Bars? If so, I'm not aware that ADJ makes a diffuser long enough to fit a Mega Bar, and I don't think it would eliminate the dark areas even if there were such a thing.
Most of the ADJ LED lights are not good for photography. The reason, as I'm learning through experience(doing sound), is that these lights put out rather hard colors and are not soft like an incandescent bulb, or even a halogen.

The ADJ LED's also "flicker", but I've found unless you're shooting INTO the fixture, this isn't a problem.

Another issue is that by using sepparate RGB elements, you don't get a 100% smooth/uniform color, especially up close. Even so, you can get a bif of smearing. Of course, this isn't an ADJ issue, it's an issue of doing this with RGB elements, rathern than a tri-LED element. Everybody has this problem.

I like my ADJ LED lights, but I also know their shortcomings, which overal doesn't affect me. I will be adding Elation LED fixtures in the future.

I'm interested in the LSF filters as well. But, I'm not sure if they'll address the isuses I'm having. Even so, the issues I'm having are mostly resolved by getting more lights. The idea of stretching out the beam into a rectangle is very attractive for what I'm doing. I find it odd that a bar-shaped light puts out a round beam!
