I have 2 American DJ Megaflash strobe lights and an Elation DMX Operator controller. What I'm trying to do is: we're an 80's band doing a big show Friday night. We want to use 2 mini trampolines on stage and jump up and down to the beat of a song and have the strobe lights flash only when the band members are in the air. With all of our testing using what I currently have, we've found it to be nearly impossible to set the strobe rate and have it stay at the "needed" rate. It drifts "off" because we're not necessarily jumping at and exactly consistent rate/fluctuating drummer's tempo not withstanding. ha ha So I'm needing a DMX controller/strobe lights combination that will flash when the person operating the controller hits the button. We plan to have a musical person hitting the flash button on a controller of some kind that will cause the strobes to flash on when they are hitting the flash button. And if that button would keep the strobes lit until the button is released, that's even better!

I was also looking at Chauvet MegaStrobe FX 12s and see that it can be used as a static "white wash" light. So it sounds like 2 of those would do the trick from the strobe side if the Megaflashes won't. The next part of the puzzle is the controller.

D=o you guys know of a controller that has a "flash" button or hot key or something that I can program to turn on the Megflashes or the MegaStrobes FX 12s and keep them on till the button is released (sort of a momentary flash if that makes sense?) If it will only flash the strobes and not hold them "on" till the button is released, that would be OK as well. Any input is MUCH appreciated!

Hi there,

This is a really interesting idea! I can see why it would be nearly impossible to set the strobe rate so perfect that it doesn't drift over time. Then again, I think it'd be nearly impossible to jump up and down to the beat of the music (at least for me)! Unfortunately, the Megaflashes don't have a true blinder function. I own a pair myself and really wish they did! You can instantly pull the second DMX channel to full (via a bump button) to get a single flash on demand out of them, but that's about it.

I think you'll get the effect you're looking for with an LED strobe. For fairness (since this is an ADJ forum) the Freq5 will do the same thing as the Chauvet version. Either way, the controller is really at the heart of getting this to work. Most controllers have the feature you're looking for - programmable memories/submasters with bump buttons. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any AJD light board with this feature - a major omission in my opinion (hence I don't own any ADJ controllers). I use the Behringer Eurolight and/or the Chamsys MagicQ depending on the job, both of which can easily accommodate what you're looking to do. Being an ADJ forum, maybe someone will chime in with an ADJ solution, but either of the boards I use can definitely do this.

Hope this helps!
