Hi everyone,
I am not extremely familar with everything about lighting and just recently joined this forum. But I have been doing it for about a year now and now it's time for an expansion. I have two LTS-6 American DJ stands. I am trying to determine how I should upgrade but have one big question that may help me with this. Can i take the AMDJ I-beam type truss pieces and mount them to my LTS-6 Lighting Stand and have a somewhat Large load on them. i would have 8 Par-38's accross the t-bar parts on each stand then 2 10 lbs each Dimmer packs across the I beam bar, One dimmer pack per section of I-beam trussing. I would then take the 8 new Par-56's that i am eventually going to get and mount them across the I-beam, Is this to much weight and would this work? any suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated.

Is there any type of special Adapter i can get so it will fit my LTS-6 or no? If not then I will start to look at your crank up system. It looks portable and easy to set-up and would be great for outdoor use or atleast it looks this way. I may have more Pars then planned if i go this route, or start into the fancier stuff intelligents and all that if i can get greater funds.
Weight supported...EVENLY distributed... depends on the span of trussing (meaning distance between support stands/cranks).If weight is really becoming a concern, the safest way to go is with some triangular or box trussing. It is much much stronger, which allows even heavier loads. Depending on the span you require, you could get one or two sections of 5-10 foot trussing that bolts together. I use 20 feet of 1x1x1 triangular trussing and I put well over 300+ pounds on it. There are a variety of companies that manufacture some great trussing. I've never used DuraTruss or GlobalTruss, so maybe someone else can help out on that one.

Just do your homework when shopping around. Make sure whatever you get is rated for your needs. Also, make sure the stands are designed for the weight capacities as well. Strong truss means nothing on weak stands.

From the amount of lights that you described, it's not a very heavy show, but still enough to be concerned of if it grows any more (cables, backdrops/banners, etc). If you're planning to expand your rig (intelligents?) in the future, I'd highly recommend triangular or box trussing.

And as always, make it safe. Do not overload trussing or stands that are not designed to support the type of load you need to have supported.

I wouldn't try adding bracing to existing structures to increase weight capacity. It's just not very safe. Physically modifying existing structures is not always safe either. They were designed and engineered one way or another for a reason.

I run into a problem, when I go by your suggestions. that problem is Portable. I need Portable equipment. Stuff that I have to crank up because I won't have a sky High trailer or anything high to mount it to. The only thing I will have is on the ground and that's about it. If I had ceiling mounting capabilites the Triangular trussing is probably what i would purchase, but i don't/probably won't have this great option. Id really like to have some good trussing like this but it's just where do i mount it and how? I have to use a crank-up or simular stand off of the ground.
Yes, crank up stands are necessary. I've used my trussing with a ceiling as low as 8-9 feet above the floor. Trussing works well everywhere low or high (obviously some places better than others).

My crank stands are extremely strong and portable. The only possible hang up on the trussing is that you need a vehicle that can handle a 5-10 foot single piece of truss.

Just to clarify: you do fly the light show up over the stage right? What do you mean about 'on the floor'?

well, with my current set-up i don't have a whole lot of flexability but i try to put it above the stage, I don't run the lights off the floor, i just dont' like a look like this. IF you would like i could try to post a picture of my current stands to and describe how close they are to the stage, which is very close or to the "temporary stage".
