Hey Folks,

I am in a 5 piece band an I have 8 Par 38s with 2 tripods and a Light Station.

1- I would like to get a intell that I can use to spotight a member of the band during a solo. When it is not going to be used for that it will be able to add a great visual for the crowds.
What are your thoughts? Think economical too Wink

2- With the setup of 8 Par 38s what do you think would be good as far as light placement. I currrently do the tripod on each side of the stage.Any other suggestions that you know of or have used?

Thanks

you want alot so I hope you have alot money. you will need a moving head cause not only do you want the light to go into the crowd but to turn 360 and hit the guitar player in a solo. you cant go with one so lets go 2 moving heads.

now how long do you want your light to last with out breaking? ok your at $3000 for two small good moving heads.

youll need a controller that can run midi cues from a petal. I would go show designer.

now your at $4000.

what you dont want to spend $4k on two lights?

lol seriously what is you budget?
Nice One!

Nope I do not want to spend $4K on 2 lights.

I was thinking more of a Scantron price point!!

My thought was a light or two on a truss behind my band.

Solo...Hit them with the spot.
Cool crossover effect during show!!

I would have my light guy run lights so no need for MIDI.

Thanks
If you are using your Par 38's and tripods for FRONT lighting, a regular scanner will work to hit your guitar players and scan the crowd. Aim the front of your intel perpindicular to the stage so that it is facing the opposing tripod. Having your intel 90 degrees from the stage will let you swing your mirror to its fullest extent. You should be able (with a DMX controller) to program solo specials, crowd sweeps, and back drop effects.

For small band gigs I use this same setup with one (or two) Mighty Scans, three Par 56's for wash, and a dimmer pack on each tripod for front lighting on each side of the stage. Works really well for me. I highly recommend the DMX operator for control or wait a while for the DMX operator PRO to be released. With one side of the controller you can program and manipulate your intels and with the other, your packs each with its own chase rate and fade time.

$200: DMX operator
$500: two beginner scanners (scan tron, mighty scan, etc) you can pay some more cash and find a scanner with dimming capabilities which would be good for front lighting.

***Make sure to add in $$$ for:
-XLR cable
-Cases. Holy crud, get some cases, you look way more professional walking into your gig with nice cases instead of the original boxes your lights were shipped in.
-BLACK extension cords (black looks nice and professional)
-Extra lamps
-Sharpie Markers (come on man, those are useful in every situation)
-Water (OK I just threw that one in as well just to see if you were paying attention) Water is good though, I highly recommend it. All the big touring bands drink water.

Get all that (including the water) and you will be rockin.
Have a good day
