I was doing some price research in the ADJ Profile Panels, mainly as I was debating getting maybe 4 of them. I ran into a YouTube video on the fixtures, which I think was done by an ADJ employee. While that was some neat viewing, I prefer this one:

Mega Panel LED Vs Profile Panel RGB / Par 64 LED Pro Vs ProPar 56 RGB and MORE!

OK, here's why you should consider watching this video:

1: NO frills straight-up head to head shootout on the Mega Panel vs. the Profile Panel, which is good if you just want a brightness shootout test.

2: 64B LED Pro vs PROPAR 56RGB. Again, straight test, no frills. Note: The distance test was crap. Need a clear shot, not between buildings as reflections off the surfaces of those other two buildings rendered that comparison as a total joke.

Moving on. Nice bit about the Mega Bar on a speaker stand or lighting stand(he used speaker stand, the results are the same) and people complaining about brightness. I get the brightness complaints all the time, but we're mounting lights IN THE LINE OF SIGHT and at eye-level, we're causing these problems to ourselves in this situation. But, more to the point, LED's can be bright!

Lastly, the scrim thing with a Profile Panel and a Mega Bar 50. I have the Mega Bar 50 and am considering the Profile Panel. Neat concept, neat look too. I bet with the RGB mixing, especialy with the Profile panel, you can get some neat things, maybe a fire effect with multiple Mega Bar 50's.

The price is a retail wash. Mega Panel 50 and Profile Panel retail for the same price. But they aren't a like for like comparison. What I will say is this: they are both very affordable. Now, considering what I paid for what I got with the Mega Panel's, sure, I always wish I paid less, but for the price, after this comparison, I'm glad I have 4 Mega Panels. But, I'm still not ruling out the Profile Panels at half the retail cost.

I'm also pretty much sold on the Elation Opti Tri pars, but now the ADJ PROPAR 56RGB are looking to me as a good concept for another future lighting purchase.

Dammit ADJ!! Sometimes helping isn't helping!! At this rate, I'm never going to save up for a digital console because I'm gonna be blowing all my money on lighting.

On a more serious note, the information this guy presents is exactly the type of information I am looking for, and the way I am looking for it. Sure, his videos may seem to be a bit long. He's addressing the fixtures from multiple points of view. It takes time to to this. The somewhat practical examples defintely help.

This as opposed to the ADJ product videos, which merely highlight the product and cababilities, but without comparative analysis, which makes sense in the context of the video.

Also, if you haven't, you might want to view some of the ADJ "under the hood" videos. They break it so you don't have to. For many of you, especially newbies, they go into great depth into the light, then dismantle it, which may help you understand stuff better.

Good watching if you have the time.

And if you're into it, Jingles has been making videos as well, from MyDMX training to 3D videos showing lighting design and concepts. I've seen some of the concept videos, some are pretty neat. I haven't checked out a training video yet. There's lots of resources out there. Use and enjoy!

Anyhow, I have lots of work today. Play nice and keep your DMX terminators plugged in!

Well, I think what he is doing is something ADJ should be doing(or perhaps me, but I hate being in front of the camera, but I'd like all the gear!!)

It's hard to be objective when you're MAKING the product, but comparing "your product to your product" makes things a bit nicer.

That sort of comparison, coupled with your moving yoke spot shoot-out after one of the recent trade shows. That was totally fair and unbiased: it was what it was and that's what it was.

I think since Elation and ADJ are also under the same "cloud", they could do cross-brand comparisons.

This is what I think would be great. I doubt it's pratical for cans and spots and wash lights:
Dark room(duh)
White wall, or maybe even a silver screen.
Fixed camera position.
Stand, truss or other fixed mounting surface, something can can preferably be compatible with nearly everything so the lights can go straight-on as much as possible
(hell, draw a cross-hair or X on the surface for aiming)

Project light onto wall or surface or screen. Label the photo.
Swap lights and repeat.

Let the users download the photos and compare side by side on their computers, or, if resources allow, a "comparison" engine, that can let a user compare up to a fixed amount of lights at any given time. Sort of think like a "Home Depot" or Best Buy type of function. Go with power draw, LED's(numbers and types), technology(LED, halogen, whatever), dimensions, weight, maybe even MSRP.

Not sure how well my idea will go over. But, in my case:

This is a bit of a share for all you readers, so forgive what is repeat information:

I have 8 64B LED Pros. I like them. I need something brighter.
I was evaluating(by specs and by what people say) the Elation Opti Tri Par, the ELED RGB ZOOM and another Elation light. Now, thanks to this video, ADJ PROPAR 56RGB looks attractive as well. I've decided on the Opti Tri Par mainly since it's a drop-in replacement for the 64B LED Pros, but not saying the ELED RBG ZOoms don't have appliations for me.

My decision can still be altered. It's a matter of brightness. I need the RGB mixing(so, R,G,B channel) and a dedicated dimming channel. That's 4 chanels right there. I also need strobing and color macro, and I'd also like a sound active option. Sound active appears to be something the ELED RGB Zoom lacks, but really isn't a big issue, just a desired feature.

I'll take brightness over sound active, maybe price too!
