Ok, please go easy with me, first post .. and Im a basic lighting user, I dont use DMX boards, but tend to use the small basic controllers that you get with lights.

Some backgound:
I have the following set up for my band lighting:
2x Acme I-Color 4's on stands with CA-32 Controller (Used for fast light flood changes).

2x Acme Magic Gobo with CA-6 Controller (Used for a basic static effect from behind the band)

4x American DJ PAR64 with LED Controller (Used for stage floods, and drum rise, slow colour fade)

1x Acme HP 2S 700W HAZER for the effects to work.

I'm about to purchase 2x X-Move LED Heads for more dynamic movement and effect on stage.

The problem:
Im having a problem with the PAR64 cans and LED controller, where the controller just doesnt seem to do anything that it should. (Generic statement I know!)

If use the inbuilt PAR can features of Master to slave, and select the functions on the rear of the master PAR can, all works fine, but as soon as I connect the master to the LED Controller, I get no real control.

Page 1 preset colours work, but page 2 does the same as page 1..

I can't really get any of the programs to work, as the units tend to flash randomly and changing any of the slider settings jsut make them react more random.

Ideally, I want to replicate the PAR can inbuilt function of slow color fade, but using the LED controller so I can adjust intensity and fade time, but I can then play and do more as required.

What do I need to do when I connect the controller to a PAR can, and what do I need to do to the other PAR units in the run?

Any advice you can give would be very gratefully received.

Thanks - Dave

Well, I had a wonderful post going when my wireless took a doo-doo crash-dive on me so I'm forced to do this again.

I am assuming the LED Operator is a really basic DMX controller.

Now, this goes back to stuff that I've said before in great detail and have had to address many times today. But I understand. People come here to ask questions, not read history and educate. It's often faster to just ask.

In short:
You can't use Master/Slave mode and DMX at the same time. It's either/or. Not both. No discussion, that's how it is. Ta-da!

Without downloading manuals:
I am assuming that the LED Operator is a very basic DMX controller. As such, you will need to match your ADJ 64 LED's to channels that match with the LED Operator. Yes, you can duplicate addresses.

Your issues may be that your 64 LED's are not in the right mode for DMX and not on the right channels.

Read your manuals, cross-reference, and you will find your answers.

Forgive me for not downloading and reading manuals. Between my internet crapping out, my wireless up and down like a cheap hooker on crack(is that redundant?) and two pug dogs constantly refusing to get comfortable on my lap and are jealous of this laptop at 1AM, you gotta cut me SOME slack.

Might I be so bold as to suggest consolidating all these various controllers into a single DMX controller or perhaps MyDMX? Might make things go easier.
First things first....the LED Operator has some drawbacks as it isnt designed to work instantly with all LED effects....you have to configure the fixture your wanting to control first.

ADJ (in some respects) have given the user too many options. It isnt a bad thing, but it can be a pain at times when you want to go down the "simple route".

In order to control your Pro LED 64 Cans with an LED Operator, you NEED to set the cans into a 3 channel mode. Anything over that means you wont be able to have full control.

The LED Operator is also designed to allow you to take complete contol over your LED fixtures and to have them sync together doing same colouring etc. Products such as the Mega Bar, Punch, Par 64, Panel, & Mega pixel can all run on the LED Operator. But they NEED to be set to a specific mode. Sometimes you will have to play around with the fixture to.

ADJ offer different DMX channel modes that the user can switch between depending on what they feel comfortable with using. By simply switching from a standard DMX controller to an operator may require a change of DMX channel mode.

The other negative points with the LED Operator - all the fixtures on the controller will ONLY do the one colour. No variation (i.e head 1 on blue, head 2 pink, head 3 blue, head 4 pink etc). Plus the inbuilt programmes dont all respond to the fade speed fader. I found i had to re-input the Chases and then it would respond. Whether this was a dodgy product i dont know, but here in the UK, the LED Operator hasnt been too well received by production or event companies as its "too much faffing around". Maybe thats because they want the quick and easy route...but on the flip side, maybe thats how things should be??????

Overall though Dave, considering what you already use and own, i would opt for a MYDMX dmx route, as it will allow you to take complete control over everything simply, easily and more professionally.

Spend 20 minutes on the programme, and you'll have lighting pre-sets for your band work stored and ready to rock!
