Is the 20 Watt LED the strongest available? While 95% of my lights are all ADJ LED products after seeing the power of the Accu spot 575 etc I was wondering has ADJ considered trying to make a compatable moving head with stronger then 20 watt LEDs? Maybr even extra lenses. Also why hasn't anyone considered using the same technology to make the individual gobos in the X-Move LED spin? I realize that it will slightly increase the unit size and a little extra weight but man it would be worth it and probably take the industry by storm.

Well, 20-watts of LED output is vastly different than 20-watts of traditional lighting technology due to the efficiency of LED technology. As the video explained it, I think there is some reflector technology used in the XMove series to consolidate the light into one coherent beam of light(or maybe it' something else).

I can definately agree with the rotating gobo. Definately a must-have. Shouldn't increase weight and size all that much. It's much less expensive to rotate the gobo rather than rotate the light source. Sharper edges. But you knew that.

I'm in the reverse situation. Most of my lights are traditional incandescent and halogen. I'm moving to LED. Definately a good way to go.
Your right Chris, Led is definitely the way to go. I have found my Leds such as Led Reflex, Revo III etc are just as bright as my Vertigos. I find facilities keep their house lights brighter then they use to and I still put on a good show using my LEDs. But I was wondering if the 20 watt LED is the max. I can't see this being the case. I figure that it was their decission based on bang for the buck. However, if they were able to make a 575w compatable unit even at $2000.00 you know guys would snap them up. Just "no bulb" replacement/ 100,000 hr life would justify them. I'd really like to know what the max is though for LEDs.
Well, I'm not sure exactl what the lighting element is exactly, if it's a single LED or a reflector/combiner system to make one coherent beam. It could be a space issue as well.

I think their decision was in part "bang for the buck", but probably also was an engineering thing.

But, let's say it's a single element, using multiple elements going through a gobo is not going to produce a unified beam of light without some sort of lighting wave guide reflectors/deflectors to wrangle those beams intoone single coherent beam. And as LED technology is by nature more expensice, each additional LED unit adds a lot of cost, coupled with the other technologies required to produce the desired final output results.

Another issue is with LED compared to incadescent/halogen technologies, it's not an "apple to apples" comparison. A 30-watt 64 LED Pro puts out an equivalent of a gelled incandecent 500-watt Par 64, or at least seems to be in my eyes as a sound man. I certainly understand what you're implying an going for.

Using a single 20-watt LED element is much more efficient than using whatever amount of LED's used in say the 64 LED Pros, which must be split among different colored LEDs. of course, this works fine for a wash fixture.

In front of that 20-watt element is a color wheel. This is again more efficient than color mixing with multiple LED's although it's done at a cost of less color selection, but is also more comaptible with gobos. Give and take, at least for now.

I also think that with price numbers you are talkng, that would seem like perhaps it may be time to look to the Elation line for solutions, where perhaps this has all bee addressed. I'm not familiar with the Elation line. Elation might be also offering higher wattage LED solutions as well.

I also think that ADJ wants to go with "LED means smaller" at least as far as physical size of fixture is concerned. The Par-type lights are smaller/shorter than their incadenscent/halogen counterparts. The XMove is small. Other fixtures seem to have recycled the old case, such as the LED Reflex.

I think we're still in the first generation of LED offerings from the lighting companies. I think in the next 3-5 years, as we enter a true second generation, we're gonna see a lot of great LED offerings coming down the pipe at us, the end users.

LED technology is starting to gain acceptance in touring. Radiohead has chosen to go all LED for their tour. With this being a viable option, this is really going to lead the way towards bigger and more powerful LED technology being made affordable for people like us who don't have big dollars or corporate sponsors and backing.

It's a wait and see thing for now.

Thanks for the info on the LED Reflex. But, since the existing Reflex is not exactly high draw, I'm not terribly concerned about replacing that one yet, but good to know how brihgt those are.

I want to see ADJ just re-fit their fixtures like the Sunray III, Mystic and Vertigo with an LED unit or units, in addition to DMX. They aren't quite there in my opinion yet. Close but the current offerings leave me a bit cold.
I've been following the LED series very closely due to its potential in every area.....now elation has released a fresnel that has a 50watt led with an output to a 500watt halogen......if ADJ was to make a 2nd edition to the X-move which by my standards is thee best fixture around and has impressed all my clients, if they were to use that 50 watt LED with rotating gobos then the X-move2 would be a great fixture, even at the cost of a larger unit and price. i don't think ADJ could even keep up with demand with orders.

Now with the release of all the old designs with LED tech like wow whats gonna be next.Ive already managed to get my hands on 24 X-moves already for production and rentals in my city, and i barely have time to myself now because of the demand for them. Even at twice the price i would buy another 24 X-move2's if they were to incorporate the rotating gobos and 50watt led.
Elation has a LED version of the design spot 250 coming out soon. It is however about 30% LESS bright as the MSD 250 lamp in the original Ds250. But i have played around with it recently and it still kick A$$! The strobe is amazing i mean literally seizure inducing strobe! haha. You can still frost the output and it still looks. Not sure how many watts the LED lamp is inside.
Sincerely,
Yea i seen the LED design spot 250...its using a 200 watt led source.....but with a $1000 differance id rather go with the msd for only 50 watts more and aparently 30% more output might as well.....far as i can tell LED's will only be able to go to a certain point before there not as efficiant as msd lamps and such. but int he end i think ADJ could go with that 50watt led source, it would raise the bar up on their movers.
