I am new here, but run the lights at the auditorium where I work, when they have a performance. We have cyber lights, studio spots and colors, and a hog 2 console, so I have an understanding of intelligent lighting, just nothing about American DJ's gear. There is no way I can afford any of the above mentioned fixtures or control desk. I already have a 16 par 64 set up , but want to add intelligents for effect lighting. This gear will be used in a band environment, with alternative style rock music. I don't expect the intels to keep up with the pars on brightness (250w halogens) But I can always dim the pars. What AMDJ products would be good here. I only want them for effect lighting and to add movement, not to carry the whole show. I am thinking of both scanners and color changers. What do you recommend?

Hi there,

You might want to consider getting a pair of accu spot 250's or a pair of auto spot 150's they would do very nicely I think, I have used them for various events such as yours and worked fine.
for color changers, I havent used any adj color changers so.. i wouldnt know.

hope this helped...

Thanks for the info. I had seen the auto spots, and heard good things about them. I was hoping to be able to use one of the more inexpensive fixtures for awhile, but I may go for the auto spots. I may at first get the dj scan 250's to get started for a couple of months. The jerky movement wont really affect me in my situation. I just wonder if they will be bright enough to be seen. (with the pars dimed, or darker color par gels and white or lighter colors on the scanner.)

For this type of setup you would want to use scanners/moving heads that are equipped with a gas discharge lamp. Why? because they are brighter than your normal 250 watt halogen lamp found in most American DJ fixtures. Depending on your budget, I would reccomend checking out the Active Scan 250, Accu Spot, and Concept 2. Another thing you might want to look into is some color scrollers for your pars. These basically allow you to get about 16 colors from one light. There are even some that offer full CMY color mixing. However, those are a rather expensive investment and require longer set up time than just putting gels in the par 64s. I actually bought 12 scrollers for theater work along with two (soon to be four) Active Scan 250's and have found them to be very versitile. Smiler Cool

Thanks for the info. I thought I might have to go the HID rought, but wanted to se if I had any other options. I had failed to think of scrollers for the pars, we have them at work. If I can find a good source-read inexpensive- for them I'll get some.

I had found that controller through searching the AMDJ site, and found it quite interesting. Is it pretty easy to program. Which one would you recomend that has more memory capacity?

Thanks

Sorry AMP, but two Par 64's per dimmer channel on a DPDMX20L will not work. It is only rated for 20 amps total. Even four 1K pars will not work with this dimmer pack. They must be no more than 600 watts each in order to use four on one pack....and even thats pushing it if you dont have exactly 120 volts of power Eeker . Smiler
Thanks for all the replies, I am really greatful. I have made a few changes to my requirements after setting up my current rig at my house last night. I feel I was expecting to much from the products I was thinking about. Now I am NOT trying to AMDJ down by saying this, I just was not comparing apples to apples in my mind. The intels I work with are 575W and 1200W and cost around 5 to 12 thousand apeice depending on options, and these are what I was using for my mental picture. Basicly I was setting myself up for a big dissapointment of my own creation.
I have rethought my design and requirements, and have come up with a more doable conclusion. Here is how I will be setting up for a concert.

In the front of the stage there will be 2 single crossarm stand with 4 p-64's on each side. These lights will be mostly for providing visability of what is gopng on on the stage.(For the audience) Colors will depend on the gig, but will most likely be 1-primary blue 2-medium red 3-medium yellow And 4-medium purple, indigo, or a skin tone, depending on the gig. These are just basic color specs are may change. I have found the Medium yellow, medium red, and primary blue, combination to be very useful though.
The other 8 pars will be mounted on a truss bridge (the one AMDJ sells, I already have it) Centered on the back of the stage. There will be 4 par 56's, 2 on each side aimed at the drums as specials. Colors will vary depending on the gig, and my mood. I have 24 chan. of dimming and all of my power distro equipment ( single and three phase), and racks for the dimmers them selves. The intels will be used at times when the stage is dark or washed with a dark saturated color. ( deep blue, congo blue, indigo, red, ect.) I would like the intels to provide not only movement, but also a color contrast, and give something diffrent than just par color washes. My budget is pretty small due to also needing sound equipment. I was looking at the scan-trons, would they proveid what I am looking for. I would like to get 4 of them and later add 2 to 4 more.

Sorry for being so long winded, I just want to get the right thing.
Thanks for your paitence.
