I have a question about the DMX buss protocol.

Is it possible to have 2 identical light fixtures on a DMX buss and configure them with the same address?

In other words....if 2 fixtures both have the same address, would they carry out the same instructions and operate identical to each other?

Or does each fixture have to handshake back to the DMX controller once a packet is properly received?

Yes, it's great that DMX can have multiple fixtures sharing an address.

In the case of Jingle's example, it's great to be able to have two movers follow(or mirror, check your switch settings) via a single setting. I'm using some color changers, and have all 4 of them on the same channel for that very reason.

DMX doesn't need to handshake, apparently, unless you're using the DMX cabling to do a master/slave relationship deal.

Right now I'm in between gigs, and I need to wait for a small job to blow through so I can strike my mega console(see web site) and set-up a 5 or 10-foot truss in my garage to start building my lighting programming. I just need to see what I am doing while I am doing it to know if I'm doing what I want to be doing. I don't visualize too well.
