Hi I am new, I am a singer from the North East of England, I sing in the pubs and clubs.

I am considering buying My DMX but I need to know if its something I can use.

I run my show from Midi Player (Midi Disk) I want to be able to set a scene to each song, but I am not sure how to trigger off the next scene, ie)

I open the show with Beyonce One Night Only, which I want as one scene I then go into Gladys Knight which I want as another scene, and so on, how can I get the scenes to change accordingly, ideally would be a footswitch of some kind, its pretty unprofessional in my trade to have to be pressing buttons and fumbling about on stage.

Any help would be very very very very much appreciated.

Thanks

First off, do you have an unused MIDI channel? Or at least a MIDI patch with blank/unused notes?

Assign a note to the scene, put the note at the beginning of the song on the same MIDI channel. You can have MyDMX learn the trigger after you've made the scene.

Easy. Make sure you have a MIDI interface on your computer and DO NOT try to do your MIDI playback on the same machine as MyDMX.
Also, you could use a footpedal.

Over here in the United States, we're so obsessed with crap that people don't give a crap anymore. Fumbling about on stage is the norm. I don't do the "one man show" stuff, I'm a professional sound production company.

Again, your best bet is to incorporate the note ON to the sequence. That will take care of it.

Your biggest problem is generating the trigger.

Step 1 of course is making your scene in MyDMX.
Step 2 is assigning the trigger. You are in EDIT mode, double click the trigger area for the scene and you can assign the trigger: Hit the note you want to use. Typically, done via a keyboard because it's fairly easy.

Step 3 is adding that note when and where you need it into your sequence. That's your problem but I bet for you it's not a big deal. I recommend a 1 measure "set-up" for each song. It's something I've been doing for years: The first measure is blank as far as music is concerned, but sets up all my patches, FX, mutes and automation for the song. Plenty of space and time to add other things like a note for a light scene.

MyDMX will pay attention to Channel and note value. You must match this when adding the data back into your sequence.

Repeat per song.

You've got the rig done right. Just take a MIDI THRU to the IN on the MIDI interface and you're good to go.
You need to find ANY foot pedal controller that is a MIDI device. Many are proprietary and are an extension of a rack unit that they connect to, or are a stand-alone footpedal/FX/controller unit(self contained).

Just do a Google search for MIDI footpedal controller and it may find something.
I've had wonderful success with my Behringer FCB1010. You don't need to do any major programming and the pedal is uber sturdy. Think carefully about where you place the scenes on the controller. Using a combination of washes on the lower buttons and special fx on the upper buttons that are coordinated with the wash colors does wonders for getting a great show.

This pedal has 10 banks with 10 patches each, so it should be plenty for you.

Hope this helps.
What Troublemaker says about organizing things on the controller should be extended a bit as well. You should also organize your scenes in MyDMX in a manner that makes sense to you, so you can find things easily.

Since Troublemaker is recommending an actual bit of hardware, it sounds like he has some success with this item.
