Actually, with intels (or any light) that uses discharge lamps the fixtures should stay powered up all night. Turning the power off and then on again in a short period of time dramatically shortens the lamp's service life. Using the blackout function instead (which closes an iris or shutter) is the way to go with discharge fixtures.

With halogen fixtures you should always follow the duty cycle outlined in the materials that came with your light. If in doubt, call the friendly folks in tech support. On some fixtures the recommended duty cycle is not just because of the excessive heat generated by the light bulb but also because less expensive motors on some fixtures may need to have a "cool down" period between uses.
NO! NO! NO! DO NOT let the DJ Scans run for 3-6 hours! Dear God! One of my business associates left his on at his club for that long and the bridge retifiers burnt up and almost burnt his entire club down! And all 4 of them did it within days of each other... Please use duty cycles on any halogen intelligent lights! Let them cool! Not trying to challenge anyone's judgement, but if you're running DJ Scans, let the *******s cool!
