Hey Turbo, welcome to the forum.

There can be many things that you can get, first of all it all depends on how much you want to spend and how much light coverage you want as in number of scanners. There is no definate answer for this since everyone has there own views, but here are some ideas. American DJ manufactures many different scanners ranging in price, performance and size. If you are a mobile DJ the pocket scan or even the mighty scan light is great. There both small and easy to take with. The pockets are much lighter weighing in at least 10lbs but only have 100 watt light output, i use these. Or the mighty scans are a bit heavier weighing in at 28lbs but has a 250watt light output, bright enough. Both lights have there advantages and disadvantages. But if you are looking for bright light go for mightys, they have great strobing effect, sperate color and goble wheel. But hey thats just my idea. Like i said adj sells many differnt scanners.

Check out ADJ's main page for intelligent lighitng and see what they have to offer, also go to a nearby store that sells ADJ and check it out for yourself. Or watch the demo movies on the product catagory list.

ok, for starters, I'm looking at getting around 4 units. They will be averagely be around 15 to 20 feet off of the ground and in a mid size venue.

I originally looked at the mighty scan, because they had 250 watt light bulb, but I heard that the Concept 2 had a 250 Discharge lamp, but you Mandinga say 150, either way, it's brighter. And I was trying to figure out if a 250 watt halogen was good enough or should I go brighter. Which makes a difference in weight and size.

And for the Mighty Scans, they're getting replaced with the Concept. Which makes a difference in price.

Could you please define "mid-size venue"? Because at first when you said large sized venue I was thinking 1200 watt discharge or maybe 575 watt discharge scanners so we obviously have very different definitions. Look at the Ultra's though, they've got a decent punch at 250 discharge (high color temperature but normally ok).
A 150 watt discharge bulb is much brighter than a 250 watt halogen bulb. My scoool hasd a room that is about 70x70 and I use mostly 150 watt fixtures. I thin that should be okay. 1200 watt fictures are used for concerts and big shows...sometimes they are used outside to light buildings!

Not trying to undermine amdj by any means... but if you try the HighEnd Trackspot, they are definetly a champ... I have 4 of those, 16 Swivel Beams, 4 RoboScans, 8 Rainbow 250s, 60 pars, 4 color 150/dmx... I'm in about a 7500 square foot dance room and the Trackspots work great for that long throw effect... as for the 575 and 1200w lights, various companies make those... Highend, ******, older amdj, etc... when you get to 1200w you're looking at prolly going 220v so beware...
