OK, i am 16 right now. Every since i was 7, i looked at the american dj lighting section. I remembered i would always rip out the effect lighting and constantly relook and relook at the intellegent lighting section. My first light was the black widow. Then i got a whole bunch of strobes and black lights. When i tured 12 i got 1 dj scan, buy did i feel like the shict. I dont think im the only one who did this, but i would call big lighting corperations and tell the i was 24 starting a buisness and to tell them to send me a demo video. Those were the days... Now every time i go on a ride, or somewhere with lights i always check to see if they are using intels, its like a colture or something, or maybe im a syco for Intels, lol, got any stories, anyone, anyone???

Well I am 19, 20 in Jan. I got my first funky lights years ago from Spencers Gifs Smiler I still have all of them by the way Wink ah, those were the days.
Then I got 4 DJ Scan R/Gs. still have them too.
Now I have (4) MX-1s, (2) MX-4s and a MiniMAC Profile. I have 2 fog machines, a FX-2 and some other one that was given to me and I donno what it is.
I was using a DXM Operator to control everything but have upgraded to an OSX based controller for my little iBook.
Haha, I'm 13, and I have (not including my DJ partners gear,or my audio):
Gobo Intel Scan (Like the Simple Scan)
2x75Watt strobes
1xADJ S-81
Beacon
Effect That's Like The Ma*t*n Dis*ov*er*
Super bright L.E.D. flasher thingy...
I'm picking up soon a... Mini Gressor, Quintet, and a BEHEMOTH sized fogger... And no it's not a bug fogger Razzer
I am 14 (15 in April) and have been interested in sound and lights for a looooooong time. I have a pretty cool setup, thanks to AMDJ's affordable prices. I can't wait to program DMX shows on the computer. Because I love lighting so much, I often find myself at warehouse sound and lights bugging Jack and Tina for demos (Faultline knows what I'm talking about). Big Grin
I got the ultimate demo show at LDI here in Vegas not to long ago. I got to look and even play with all the latest toys. Even got to push a few buttons and made a Mac 2000 do a few tricks. Big Grin I had reps from different makers show me pretty much what ever I wanted to see. It was soooooo cool. I even got 50% of any order of 20 or less custom gobos from gobos-to-go. Those are a bit pricey to half off makes it nice Wink

Well folks,I am 52 and I FINALLY found what I want to be when I grow up. I have 16 cans and a couple of simple effects lights, a 12' truss system and a couple of single stands. I have been providing sound and lighting for a metal band but found the lighting is much more fun. I told them to find someone else to do the sound but I will still do the lighting. Any suggestions for lighting for Metal? I am getting a lot of good info from this forum.
For lighting a metal band I'd suggest something like 4 of the Ultra-Scans...they're bright, they have rotating gobos and they have good speed which can look great when strobing or basically making some high energy effects for matching the high energy music.

Then add some good DMX switchpacks and a DMX controller and integrate what you have with that.

Bob
Thanks for the info on metal band lighting, Bob

I will start working towards that end.
I haven't had as much fun with anything in a long while as I have had with the lighting. Could you or anyone suggest any books, videos or other training media to help a newbie in this business?
Well man, i got 3 books, 1 on djing the other two on lighting. I looked at it once. But it is a real waste of time. One, make good friends at the DJ store cause your gonna be asking them alot of questions on how to make different effects work. Like me, for example. I goto Where house sound and lights to watch mighty scans interenal program and try to match it on my dmx board at home. Also, any fixure that is too complicated to use, it will most likely come with a video tape. For serious questions, just sign online and use AMERICAN DJ FORUMS, like you are now. We'll help you. I know i will.

As the Ultra Scan are a great purchase they are also 44 pds. I know that when you get more higher end the features go up and so does the weight. Thats why I am suggesting the NEW Auto Spot 150 because the casing is plastic and other reason it weighs 14 pounds less than the Ultra Scan. The differences is that it has a 150 Discharge bulb over the 250 on the ultra and you lose a few gobos and colors. Also it is a moving head. Which means it will cover a lot of space. And for setup it is not needed to be hung but can so you can just set it on the stage and plug in your cable and your set!
Don't get me wrong the Ultras are a great light but I think the Autos could suit you better.

Fautline,
Warehouse Sound & Lights has now moved into a bigger building right accross the parking lot. They have a whole area designated for their lighting demo's. By the way they have gotten rid of the Mighty Scans and are replacing them with the Concept 2's. they are also getting the Auto Spots.

Have you been in Warehouses's new loction? Right accross the parking lot and about twicee the size of their old store.
