I am in charge of a twice a month church dance for college aged students.
The dance floor is approx. 25' x 50' with a 9' ceiling.
No fog or haze is allowed in the building.

I need a light that can be fairly easily set-up that will run either programmed or sound activated until the dance is over(4-5 hours).

I would like two different "types" of light so we could change things instead of having the same lighting every dance.

In the past, we've been using colored light bulbs, black lights or a mirrored ball with one spotlight.

One online lighting vendor recommended: a 12" mirror ball with tri-spot LED light; Quad Phase, Jelly Dome, Revo 4, or Micro Galaxian.
I am concerned after reading the Galaxian manual, about the possibility of one of our students setting it up in a way that a laser could possibly harm someones eyes.

My budget is about $350 for two lights.

I would really appreciate all opinions, recommendations and suggestions on particular lights to consider to allow me to get the best results with our limited budget.

Thank you for your help with this.

i have galaxian 3d , love it, but that alone is your entire budget

i'd wait for micro galaxian, as it will be 1/3 of the cost

also, i have Revo4, love it, it covers the entire dance floor, depending how high you go with it...

i would recommend you check em out at the stores, if possible, before buying
When working with a limited budget you'll want to look for the best 'bang to buck' lights that you can find. You'll also want to find lights that have many different features so that they'll stay fresh during the 4 hour gig. I'd agree that the Revo 4 is a solid choice for you because it gets wide coverage and has a nice set of built in programs. Assuming you plan on leaving your show on sound active mode, this light should work nicely.

I'd avoid the laser myself. Though they're pretty cool, I think lasers such as the galaxian 3D wear out very fast (in terms of effectiveness). When I'm able to use fog and high power lasers at a venue I only use them for maybe 5 minutes during the 4 hour dance. For the 5 minutes they're on it's an incredible effect. I only run them for a few minutes because I don't want their effects to get old. Since you can only get a few lights I'd hold off on the laser.

If you can get a second light I'd suggest something along the lines of a Jellydome or Vertigo/Aggressor TriLED. Though not as versatile as the Revo 4 these lights will add some physical movement to your show. These will look good with or without your Revo 4, so it'll give you some nice combinations of effects to play with.

Hope this helps, but yeah, try to see if you can get a live demo so you can pick your favorites!
