Long story short, I have never done any DJ stuff before and I have not yet found a DJ. I am trying to put together a estimate on equipment for a club im trying to put together. If you guys can help me decide on good equipment for starting out. I need recommendations on everything, sound equipment and light equipment. Also any DJ's around the Albany/Corvallis area in Oregon looking for club work send me an e-mail. psycokyle14@hotmail.com
Thanks, Kyle

Well, gee, you've given us ALL sorts of wonderful information to help us out.

(please note the sarcasm)

How big? Dimensions? Type of crows? Atmosphere? What is your budget? Why type of SPL do you want/need? What is your coverage area expected to be? Spin discs only or expect bands and/or national touring acts/performers?

What sort of light show do you want/need?

Power distros? How much power you have?

I can give you a budget of around $100K right now for sound, won't include a single light fixture. Of course, no DJ stuff in there either, and that's just a PORTION of what I carry to an event.

Turst me, outside of maybe a couple or few CD decks, and maybe a DJ mixer, you will want a better mixer(minimum) for that to go into, an RTA, perhaps a speaker management system, proper ratio in amps and power distribution to your tops, mids, lows and subs. You don't want your sound system to be "DJ" stuff, trust me, it won't hold up and won't be a great idea. Are you flying or planning to fly speakers? You've got to think hanging points, possibly motors, chains, safety, fail-safe and the like. Don't let your "spinner-du-jour" have access to your house EQ, they'll just dink it up, so keep your RTA locked up tight. Someone figured out how to make a ********* digital ERQ knock OUT low frequencies when pushed too hard, in order to wake up DJ's who don't understand concepts such as balance and clarity, or overdriving and distortion.

Lights is a WHOLE OTHER story. Intels, cans, wash, movers, haze, bubbles, snow, fog, changers, effects, lazers. You can go nuts there as well.
what sort of club is it going to be, just remember that there is alot more to running a club tham the lights and sound, you need to know how to get people into that club to hear the sound and see the lights. like chris said there are so many different ways you can go with choosing your sound and lighting, just design it according to the venue
