The advantage to haze is that it doesnt require heating like fog does. Basically plug and play! I believe most if not all haze fluids are water based where fog can be either oil or water based. You can let a hazer run pretty much all night and barely even notice it where as fog you have to run in bursts. One advantage to haze especially in venues where the fire system is an issue is that haze wont set fire alarms off...where fog can (trust me from experience )
The best way i can describe haze is to think of a light dew in the night and seeing your head light beams but not really being able to see the dew. This is pretty much how haze is see the light beams but not the haze...
my versions is if u have ever gone to a rock concert and just looked around it is not very smokey in the place then all of the sudden the lights go out and the concert lights turn on and u can see the beams perfectly? that is the effect of a hazer! very awesome. i got to get one!! jingles!
Hazers, Are great for all of the reasons mentioned, and has no odor, but you will occassionaly have someone come up and say "Don't use the fog, because the smell bothers me" or "it is making my Asthma act up." And even though it does noeither of these things, some people just like to complain, so make sure your B&G are aware of it beforehand, and that they would want it.
I've used "older style" hazers like the Haze Generator....
Those things are friggin loud. There is a compressor that forces air into a tank with fluid and makes haze. It didn't bother us too much because we used it in a live rock venue. I took it to a church one time and the noise was horrible!!!
The other annoying thing is that the haze generator's fluid is OIL BASED which means use it long enough with the same pa/lighting equipment you will eventually find a gooey oil residue in all your stuff.
We had the old antari version of that hazer at our club then got rid of it a few months later after we realized we were ruining our Trackspots, power amps, and our projector.
I like Hazers with a heater, I tried a ADJ Hazer and it sounded like a tractor. Heaterless isnt always the way to go unless there is a ton of noise to drown out the putt putt tractor noise. Besides the bands hate the sound of the thing also. Add some heat and no more noise.
Well, my one experience with my own fog machine was: Fog Storm 700 defective right out of the box. Well, it produced fog, but there was a horrible burning smell and was asked to turn it off. After taking advice of others here, I ran the fog machine and pumped quite a bit through it. No change. ADJ did an RMA for me. I still haven't opened that one and it's been 2 years.
In the meantime, I had to buy a second Fog Storm 700. I thoroughly tested it. No burning stink.
I find myself personally, I feel like my check is compressed or squeeze when I am in the fog or smelling it, I just don't care for it. As soon as the fog dissapates a bit, I immediately feel better.
What I am looking at is a different brand for a hazer since the ADJ offerings require oil-based fluids. After reading this thread, I'm definately being very demanding in my requirements.
Hey, not to knock ADJ, not every product can be a winner. Maybe their next generation hazer will be better.
Has anyone ever performed any repairs on the Haze Generator? I dealer near me said he'd be glad to do the repair, but that its a pretty straight forward machine, and easy to fix, however, I cannot get the two pieces of the tank/compartment apart to troubleshoot inside. Any ideas?
there are a few water based hazers out there, but they may be pricey (but in the end, there's a lot less gunk built up inside your lights). I can let you know of a few manufacturers; just shoot me an email: radiance.productions@yahoo.com
