Hi I am about to be purchasing A American DJ Haze Generator, what are your opinions on this piece of equipment? Is there a difference between this and a fog machine?
While it is a haze machine, it is somewhat noisy and it also uses oil based fluid. When using this unit with your lighting equipment, over time it will leave behind a residue. When purchasing a hazer try to look for ones that use water-based fluid to avoid the residue on your lights.
I'm trying to get a haze generator. Less power and thinner "fog" means I don't have to waste electricity/amps for a device I have to keep my eyes on all night. I might sell my existing fog machines to get it, or might keep one just for the option.
But in regards to Light Dude talking about leaving residue, even the fog machines leave residue as well, although it takes much longer to build up the same amount of residue.
Besides, the fog juice has something in it that makes my eyes instantly sore and gives me a headache. It's not just ADJ's brand, I have some other brands and they do it as well. As long as I fire off the fog machines via wireless remote, no problem, but if I have to be in it, ugh!
I was given a used HZ-1000 from A_ntari (which is the same exact thing as the AMDJ hazer.
The hazer sat in the same spot, not working. Someone had apparently put standard haze fluid in the hazer and cloged it up really bad. I opened the hazer up and bought a new "haze container" and the thing worked perfectly. I have only used it once and I was impressed by the output. The nice thing about this hazer was that there is only two parts to the machine: the compresser (the really loud thing) and the fluid container. Parts are still available from AMDJ.
Two drawbacks: >NOISE: holy crud this thing is loud. Sounds like a 1k generator. >Fluids: That oil based stuff is hard to find unless you go online. None of the retail lighting stores in my area carry oil based haze fluid. Also the fluid does leave a residue on things. This is not a big problem but one thing to consider is that the hazer will constantly be around YOUR equipment and lights. Imaging that oil residue building up inside your intel lights. Scary thought!
This hazer is nice and all but I still wouldn't mind getting a better hazer with more output and normal haze fluid. For now I will use my magnum pro fogger and a fan right behind it.
