So I am competing in a state wide competition this sunday with my VMS4...

I am getting cracking from the sound Frowner
When I hit and hold the cue, my sound sometimes crackles then comes on about a 1/2 second late, sometimes it plays right away but only out of the right speaker, then 1/2 second later it plays out both correctly again.

I also noticed the left LED shows a slightly lower volume than the right most of the time.

Latency changes don't do a thing, I've maxed them both out in ASIO and VDJ with any changes.

Laptop is a Thinkpad 2.1 duo core and 4 gigs of ram on XP.

No I am not in contact with support.

I've tried most of the settings in VDJ, but nothing really seems to help or even make a difference. Turbo mode seemed to help the most oddly enough.

Try to remove the battery pack if its in.

Any particular reason for this?

Yes. The battery pack CAN cause problems with the audio driver. Believe me, i tried nearly any DVS (Digital Vinyl System = Timecode) available and some soundcards/drivers have issues with it.
Just give it a try and check if the cracking will go away or if its getting less at least.

Another option would be to setup some Windows7 system. WinXP is good for realtime audio, but Win7 is even better.

And you should check your realtime audio latency: http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml

You run it without the battery pack at all?

Realtime latency is really good, way under even the yellow area.

I have free access to win 7 via my college but didn't have a DVD-burner at the time but I may have to do that.

Windows is only registering 2.83GB of my 4GB of ram.
removing the battery is pretty much the same as disabling ACPI in win xp and i agree, this is a good idea.

next, for VDJ it's cruical to have SP3 installed. for the bpm show i installed vdj le and couldnt get it to run hustle free (although traktor runs finde on the same computer), until i installed sp3 - that resolved everything.

Well I just took the battery out and realized that this did have Win7 Pro installed with a valid key. I am going to first try and run without a battery.

But my problem is getting worse, now the bass is randomly cutting out. Turbo mode still seems to work best oddly enough.

If this thing fails me in front of 40 DJs + a packed crowd, it will be the most watched VMS4(.1) American Audio youtube video, I will guarantee it.
Well its worse now

Every so often the bass cuts out completely and it static-noise comes over the rest of the sound, the volume also lowers a bit then it 'resets' back to normal for a while.

Tried a completely different speaker/amp combo with different RCAs on both the master/booth output.

CPU is running about 50%, ram around 480 used, latency average is about 280 with a peak of 680.

Ridiculous
there is most likeley a driver or sth crapping out. there are numerous tutorials out there that tell you how to tweak your computer for realtime audio applications - that's nothing to do with the vms, that's a general rule. there's a good dubspot tutorial out there on this. try that!

since i dont use vdj, i cant help much further - please contact support.
I have same issue with my HTPC, using my notebook there is no problem with sound, but with the other computer i have some sound issues (pops, little stops in playback...).

The notebook is a c2d 2Ghz with vista and also an AV and lot of programs, but VMS4 works fine with virtualdj and traktor. In other side, the HTPC is a clean install of winxp SP3, and I have a lot of problems xD

Anyway I must investigate which driver is making interferences, but all we need be patient with this kind of devices Smiler

best regards!!
Well I did a fresh install of Windows 7,

Got a hold of Sergio at AA via email and said to call if I had issues.

I had it running for about 3 hours and 45 minutes then it progressively got worse, just like it did before Frowner

Resetting the laptop fixes the problem...

There is almost nothing on this laptop.

Avast
Chrome
ASIO driver
VDJ

the only drivers installed are video/wireless.
primary sound driver works with win 7 install.

You can't get much cleaner than that.
Well I let the entire setup run over night,

I took Freshflukes advice and found the dubspot tutorial on optimizing the laptop. I usually don't bother with the tutorials because its typically stuff I've already done or know about.

The one I found has seemed to solve all my issues thus far, either way I think I will be golden for my 20 minute set in the competition.
Just going over some of the videos from the competition last night.

There were some technical issues, luckily not mine Wink

However the lights on the VMS4 weren't bright enough compared to the stage lights and I had a hard time seeing my cue spots.

The biggest issues and I mean big issue was the headphone output. On my mobile setup this never has been an issue, but with the crowd and monitors on me I had the headphones up as loud as I could and still had an extremely hard time hearing it. I was really disappointed with this, While I still did my set with near perfection. I only mixed about 8 songs (minus the loops for channels 3/4) in 20 minutes, compared to my practice sets of 12-13 songs, it took me forever to get things phased and setup correctly for transitions.
4 categories
25pts a piece for total of 100.
Based on Mixology, Turntablism, Beatmatching, Crowd control.

20 minute sets for 'trial round'

Any equipment, style, genre, etc.

I hit all the main ones except dubstep, but I had 2 dubstep/drumbass DJs my night so I skipped it lol. I even got a bit of country into my set as well lol

Its not up yet.

Well Customer Support was nice enough to send me some new AA headphones to help with the headphone output on my VMS4. When I tried them against my sony headphones on my computer they were about 9db louder, but on the VMS4 they have almost identical useless low output Frowner

Especially over halloween, my 2nd 'loud' gig out with the VMS4, it is just an extreme pain with the volume so low. I am going to get back ahold of customer service and see what the next step is.

well, all bad sound / playback issues solved in one of my computers upgrading from winXP SP3 32bits to Win7 SP1 64bits. Maybe old xp drivers were not enough updated. I have installed all new drivers for chipset/sound etc and i dont have to disable any device or make msconfig to use VMS4 without any problem.

Still have to disable my wifi with win7 64bit.

I've been watching some videos on the NS6, haven't heard any bad things about it either. It just wouldn't make sense for me to sell my VMS4 with all of its issues, just to 'upgrade' to a VMS4.1

I thought buying a VMS4 would be a long-term purchase Frowner
