can anyone please suggest a projector for me. I need the projector to handle a custom gobo and then I also want the gobo to move on screen. As opposed to the roto gobo that just spins, I am looking for one in which the gobo pops in at the left and then to the right and then to the bottom etc. It does not actually have to move across the screen just appear in different places.

Is there a projector that does this that is not a lot of money?

Thank you for your help

I tried to respond to this earlier, but my machine decided to freak out instead.

Well, even with what you're desribing, it's not a single unit issue.

OK, now, with the discontinued Projector 150, which I have, I have learned how to make custom gobos. I have even made a template to help facilitate this. I also bought the special transparency paper for inkjets to ensure all goes well. Gotta say I like this.

I have made a custom gobo for a client, the initials for a bride and groom. For that one, I had to disable the motor on the Projector 150.

I have a second gobo, which is designed to rotate. Think "rotating commercial" as it goes through the different items.

This unit also includes a "general occasion" gobo insert, as well as 2 others for "Groovy" lighting. But, more or less, it's a static image type projector.

It sounds to me what you ideally want is a moving yoke/head unit where you can commission a custom gobo. Assuming you can do this and you align it right(might be tricky), then you can use the movement capability to move the image around the pre-determined zone of coverage. If you want it ti simply snap from place to place, you can use the shutter function to black it out while moving.

Another option would be a bank of Projector 150's, each set to point at a different location, and using a dimmer pack in switching mode, jump between channels for your position changes.

Another option might be the various oscilating bases:

Attach something like the Projector 150 to this, and that's a fairly cost effective option. But alas, the Projector 150 is discontinued. I think I said that already.

Jingle's idea has me interested. While it's not going to do everything you want, it does replace the Projector 150 and then some, but at a price I'm currently not willing to pay.

My best suggestion would be to get a good moving head light that hopefully serves other functions other than just this application, then pay to have a gobo made, which is typically going to be made from glass or metal. Costs vary. But, if I was doing this(and I might now, thanks for the idea), I'd spend some money to have someone do it for me, such as ADJ if they offer that service, IF I went with an ADJ product(which I would, if not then Elation). The company you buy from can answer if they make custom gobos or could probably recommend a location that does.

You may have to "step up" in price to get the features you want.

ill double check to see if ADJ sells one that might suit your needs.
Sincerely,
Thank you. This seems to be what I need. With the accessories do they each work independently with one another or can I use more than one at a time.
Can you help me out as to which accessories I need to support custom gobo and then have it move and spin all over the projected area and not just stay in one place? I guess what I don’t understand about accessories do I need one to make toe image rotate and then another make it move around?
I think what I like about this is that I can start out with projector and a couple of accessories and then add on at a later date, but for now I just want it to move and do a couple of special effects.

Thank you for your help!
Well, here's an interesting, but probably BAD idea.

OK, the requester mentions a screen. I assume that means "the area within which I intend to project the image made via the custom gobo", as opposed to an actual projector screen.

In my case, the "screen" was an area above the band and visible above the truss so everyone could see my wonderful self-promoting rotating gobo wheel I made for my Projector 150.

Now, assuming that you are projecting your image in an area where your image is going to get fairly big, here's where my bad idea comes in:

Have multiple gobos made, with the logo or whatever in different places on each gobo.

I told you this was a bad idea.

Ideally, this to me sounds like a moving head application with a custom gobo.

I think Jingle's idea is valid. It may not be the best idea, but then again, neither is mine. I think Jingle's points out the right type of figure, and looking at the page he directs you to, it seems to fit the concept quite nicely because of the pictures. I've seen this concept used in various other was as well, such as the gobo actually being some sort of LCD display(often used for a clock) to project the image of an analog or digital clock in department stores, so lots of options for sure.

I think my idea of a moving head gives you more capability at a possibly LOWER price if the ADJ fixture supports custom gobos. I know my Chauvet QSpot 150's included some alternate gobos, but it doesn't do me a fat lot of good if I can't crank into the unit to change it. With this particular fixture though(and ADJ has an equivalent and I do apologize for not mentioned it since I don't know its name), you can move it up and down, left and right, in circles if you want, change colors, rotate it and more.

I think the weakness in Jingle's suggestion is only the fact that by using this fixture is that I don't think it has the option by itself to give you all the things you want at one time. That is why a moving yoke/head fixture might be more suitable for your application. This isn't to discount what he's staying. We're both coming at this from very different directions.

Also, looking at that fixture, I can't see how you can use more than 1 accessory at a time either. Once you put one on, it looks like there won't be room for a second accessory.

A suitable ADJ fixture MIGHt be the Roto-Gobo(which the page isn't fully working, check those graphics guys!). To NOT have the image rotate, you'd have to get inside and disable the motor, which would void your warranty. It's another option, fairly cheap, but alone probably won't do what you want.
