Back when I was using vinyl I had a problem with grip whilst scratching on vinyl. When I was desperate I used to lick my fingers just to get a decent grip on the vinyl. I sometimes dipped my fingers in Coke for grip too. These nasty habbits after a while would leave grubby marks on the vinyl and people would look at me like I was some kind of wierd finger-lickin-Coke-dippin freak.

Now that I have the PS2s Im finding Im having similar problems with the platter because the surface of it is similar to the vinyl. I don't want to start lickin my fingers again or using Coke again because I don't want to ruin my shiny PS2s right. And I also don't want to rely on the rubber-grip ring because I found that if you push down with a certain pressure, the ring makes contact with the base unit.

Does anyone with either vinyl or PS2 experience know of a better way to get good grip on the PS2 platter????

Thanks in advance.

Is your skin made of Powder?? why in the name GOD are you dipping your fingers in coke for?? lol For better grip..why don't you first wipe down the platter with a clean cloth, and second try breathing HOT air on your fingers instead of licking them... and then try using the Platter again... or you can do the same thing on Vinyl ! Dust is the problem!! If to much Dust is in the Air it will settle on the Vinyl, or Platter. It makes everything slippery !
Hey guys thanks for your replies and advice. No I don't have powdered hands/fingers - I always make a conscious effort to wash my hands with soap before touching any DJ equipment. I think its more of a case of dry hands and dust. I like the idea of the alcoholic hand wipes so I will give that a try along with the regular platter wipe down.

Let me tell you - Coke(the beverage) or any fizzy drink of that nature was excellent because when dry would leave a lasting sticky residue on your fingers like peeling an orange (hey there's an idea) making for awesome grip, unfortunately it did have it's drawbacks as mentioned.

I'll keep you posted on how I went.

Cheers
