Generating FX On Top of Existing Steps

I've Programmed half the scene already, and it would be a huge help to be able to generate parts involving movement using the FX generator. Is it possible to do this? (Selecting the desired steps before going into FX Gen had no effect)

I am working with:
4 Martin SCX600s
4 Martin MAC250 Entours
2 ADJ VIZI Spot LEDs
2 Martin MAC550s

No that doesn't work. If you try that is will just generate at the end of the steps from the previous effect.
