Ahh here we go
cyc, aka "cyclorama". The very back of the stage with the orangy wash is the cyc...as I said its just a big white cloth flown from the grid and then u use cyc strips for washes and stuff. Especially with red, blue and green gels on your cyc strips...your color mixing pallette is very broad. Cycs are also used as good "punch" effects. It adds some pretty neat effects on stage. Like blue wash for sky and then add some cloud gobos...or green wash for a forest and add some tree/bush gobos...you ge the idea. Also if the cyc is on and there not light in front of it...the actors become shadowed. And if u r in back of the cyc when its on you get shadows as well and a neat effect. Just adding more to the ambience of your stage look. Hope this helped.

Oh light dude to answer your cyc question. Depending on how far away from the cyc u put the light it prob would do a pretty nice job if you had several of them of course. They are only 150watt and keep in mind that most cyc strips (and stage lights) themselves are usually 1000watts. Although if you put the lights behind the cyc that would be a neat effect. One wont be enough tho...id say prob 4 or so depending on the size of your stage/cyc.

hey, i know that this is sorta a change of subject but what would be the best way to get a silhouette of a band...i can do just about anything i need want to the stage to get this effect...but the intro for their show would be incredible with them in silhouette...i was just wondering what the best way to position the lights would be...thanks

Well to answer your question borris...the best way to get a shadow effect is to light the band only from behind them...usully with lights on the floor shooting upward. Or you could make ur own kinda cyc with a sheet if u really wanted to. Light from the side usually works too as long as its behind the people on stage. -AMP
