I'm looking into purchasing intelligent lights in the near future, but i'm on a budget so its a little difficult shopping around.

Currently I have 2 big shot strobes, a amdj reflex, mirror ball, and a fogger. I'm looking into purchasing a set of intelligent fixtures but have a budget of about 400 dollars. Im looking for something that I will be able to expand later on, but still be sufficient to use on its own as a lightshow for now.

So far I've come up with these ideas:

2 DJ Scan 250's

or

4 Color 150dmx's

or

2 pocket scans

They would all be run sound active for now but linked together. What do you think?

keep in mind you can only link lights of the same type together to run in SA mode. It's important to try and match the output of each fixture as well. If you see yourself primarily buying fixtures in the 250 watt range then you should try and avoid getting fixtures that are less then that now. If this is the case I would suggest going with the dj scan 250's because of there output over the pocket scans. This will allow you to get more 250 watt lights at a later time and still be able to use the ones you buy now without washing them out. Just my 2 watts. It really depends what you are trying to achieve with them... good luck
I put the color changers as a choice because i would be able to get 4 of them instead of just 2. Im just concerned the color changers wont be as exiting cause they just shine color, no gobos, no movement.

What do you guys think of 4 color changers vs 2 scanners, which will be the better effect for now?
Its a tough decision. I mentioned the Scan Trons just because then you have the option of having both when you need them. I mean 4 the price difference between 2 scanners and 4 color changers is only a couple hundred bucks, which I kno is still a nice sum. You could do 2 of each also for some diversity. I guess it depedns on what kinda budget your workin with. If you wanna spend a lil extra cash go with 4 scanners or two of each. I dont think if it was me personally I would go with 4 color changers.
Well I thought I was going to end up buying the color changers, since I would have a set of four and they have lots of options for how you use them... but

I think tomorrow I'm going to my local guitar center to check out the dj scans 250, and if I like them, I'll pick up two of them.

Anyways, what do you guys think of the Dj scan 250? Anyone own them? I heard about the chopy movement but I think it doesnt matter for the price I pay.

Any comments
I got them!!

I went to guitar center and got 2 dj scan 250s and I am very satisfied!!

I'm very happy with the built in programs and run them separate, not linked, both in sound active mode cause they look so cool. The lamp is bright, and the light looks very nice.
Very vibrant colors!

to anyone out there that has a $300 budget and needs lights Buy 2 of these today!!!!

Of course you need a disco ball for slow songs because this is a litle wild for slow dances.

I do have one question, the fans are pretty loud, which i can deal with becasue thats what makes this have no duty cycle...BUT, depending on how the light is placed it will be very loud almost like it is vibrating against the lights body. Is the fan loose or something??

Overall great light, i'm sorry if i'm so exited but this is my first scanner and I just love it!

Thnaks to all that replied

I would recomend linking them and checking out some of there built in programs. Set one as the 1'st in a link on the dips, and set the other as a 3'rd that way, they still have the Cool random look, but you tell that they "like" eachother,

Yes, I know this is an old thread, but I just have to post this Big Grin
