Dynasty Scan bulbs?

clarification: Every Dynasty scan has to have a bulb replacement at least every 2 shows. But like I stated in the 1st thread about 3-4 scans need it every show.

When replacing the lamps, no one is putting their fingers on them, are they? The lamps should have no contact at all with skin, otherwise the oil from our skin will cause the lamps to go out prematurely.

The only other thing I can think of is maybe they are being under or over volted. Check the voltage levels with the lights running. Too much and you will burn out the lamps quickly. Too little and they won't be able to strike and create an arc.

Hello Ric. When replacing the lamps what brand and voltage are you using? You may also want to see if the fans on the unit are running. How long have you had them for?

The Dynasty Scans are just over a year old. The bulb brands have been Sylvania 15V 150W purchased thru GCenter with an occasional Phillips brand of the same V & W. The fans are running with no problems at all. The bulbs are installed with gloves so no skin contact. The only problem I have noticed is on 1 light only and its shutter is slow to work compared to the other 5 scans.

Yes and no. Furman makes power conditioners and voltage regulators that work great. The issue is when the lamps strike, they draw more voltage and power, which can trip the Furmans and the capacitors in them. So they might work, they might not. They really aren't meant for something like arc lamps unfortunately.

The lamps aren't striking at the same time, are they? Try striking them with 30 or so seconds in between each one. This might be the issue. If you try to strike them all at once, they drain too much voltage and some or all won't strike.

I am not sure that these lamps strike. They are a very small light very much like a MR16 that you find in everyday kitchens and can get at Home Depot. The only difference is they are 15 volt instead of 12. They are plugged in at seperate times, I would estimate with over 30 seconds between plug ins.

As much as we talk about power conditioning and surge protection, it's actually recommended that in big events, assuming we have suitable transformers and are pulling 3-phase AC, we avoid those products almost entirely for things like dimmers, DMX lighting(especially high draw stuff) and amplifiers. Let those beasties get all the AC they want. Things like consoles, signal processing and other electronics SHOULD still go behind some sort of power unit.
