Perhaps you can run the power to the controller through a power conditioner, like other rack gear, and then you can have a power switch for it on the front of the rack.

Another way to do it is to plug it into a strip surge protector and use the switch on that to control the power.
Personally, I like my power switches to be not easily accessible because it's one less thing some moron can hit during a performance. With my live experience, remember Murphy is always around the corner waiting to enforce it's regulations in a most unpleasant and unexpected manner.

Each rack of mine has a power unit(Furman). If I need something off, I do have a "master switch".

Chances are, I bet the engineer who designed it purposely put that switch back there so you can't accidentally power it off during a show. While you may see this as a bad thing, I see it as one less thing to cause things to hose up or hose me up. Avoid the oops factor!

Use a surge protector. It's safe.
