DMX Connections

I am just wireing up my lights and labelling all my dmx cables and have stumbled across a confusing issue ! I have recently purchased 2 Fogtec VS1500 DMX smoke machines.

On running a dmx cable out of a light to go into one of the fogtec's the input socket on the fogtec is the wrong type i.e my cable plug is female but so is the socket? The socket is clearley marked DMX INPUT on the fogtec - it seems they are the wrong way around - am I just being thick here and missing something obvious?

if not, can I simply change the plug on the cable for the input and also for the output?

Can you post a picture? It seems like maybe it is mis labeled. But you can't simply change the ends around as this would be "backwards" In has to be In and OUT has to be OUT. Make sense?
