Will be using compu ware 1024 C. The manuel says set the switch betwee 4 cahnnel dmx mode and 10 channel dmx mode. I'm lost here, what should I set it at? Also since I only have one Revo 3 is my starting address (1)?

What is the diff between 4 cahnnel and 10 channel? I will run it sound this weekend for a 16th B day party, but need to be ready to go dmx by the 13th.

Thanks in advance

Does anyone have a Revo 3 that you have programmed with the 1024 you would like to share with a dmx dummy?

Jingles, I will be deleting everything I have programmed and starting fresh with the Revo 3.

When my Vizi LED Spots arrive I will put then in next. So am I correct that the Revo should be (1) ?
Chris, if the manuel explains the diff in 4 and 10 then I missed it. I will again go thru it and try and figure it out. Thats why I asked here. Getting up to speed is not easy, the compu ware manuel if complex for a dmx new guy.

Thats why a webinar would be a great idea.
There is no rule what address what fixure has to be what address. Since I'm moving to almost all LED lighting(well, trying), so I'm redoing my universe in MyDMX, which means I have to redo all my show files too, but so be it.

What I would say is plan ahead. No right single way to do it. One way is to simply think what you have vs what you want to get, and planning to keep like fixtures near each other as far as addresses are concerned.

Some people have better address planning methods.

So, if you want the Revo to be 1, that's fine, but make sure you know now if you want 4 or 10 channel mode before you start doing your programming so you don't proverbially shoot yourself in the foot. The manual on page 13 shows the differences between 4 and 10 channel mode, but this is done very poorly. in my opinion. It seems the Revo 3 should be a 6 channel fixture. I better read manuals on these before buying as that trait chart is really confusing. I better examine the MyDMX profile to clarify things.
Hey, nobody helped me on this stuff. I had to learn by "trial by fire". Went from nothing to a $1200 investment in stands, packs, fixtures and a controller. Made it all work just fine with pretty much no knowledge. Must be the data guy in me.

Just a warning: sometimes more options aren't better. The Mega Panel has a 26-channel mode, which for me, is not usable. The 7-channel mode is ideal. But, to each their own, I definately see the usage for a 26-channel mode, but not in my rig right now.
Chris, thats a hard line to spew out. If you don't want to help anyone why you here? I know nothing about dmx and compu ware, the manuel is totaly confusing. I'll just get some here in Dallas and pay them, I don't have the time or engery @ 55 to devote that much time. If need be I'll just run it auto sound.

I have never told someone to do it themselves, wheter it was audio or how to run a reception. I've done over 1500 receptions and have had at least 25 people come and observe. Sorry for the rant.
Yes, I'm sure. I went from NOTHING to a week later having that simple rig and a week after that having it in action. 100% operational, only cracked the DMX Operator Manual, set my DMX addresses on the DP-DMX20L and started playing in my lead-up to the event.

Would you care to ask my witnesses on that one? Want phone numbers? Email addresses?

2002, January. DMX Operator, Dimmer pack, Sunray III, Electra and 6 Par38's. No help from the sales guy, ADJ, anyone. You'll notice I don't go back that far in my registration here, which seems to say September of 2003. I'll have to take the forum's word for it, I don't recall those sort of details.

What I have had help with was some stuff with MyDMX, but nobody had to run me through the ropes with DMX protocol.

I'm not saying I don't want to help anyone nor do I want help. I've freely asked for help when I've needed, mainly to educate myself on products or comparisons, or in some cases, some stuff that Serra Ava has mentioned that I still can't wrap my head around.

I also expect people to have a basic concept of DMX. It's not that difficult for basic operations.

I think what you need, Jerry, is a DVD that shows you how to use Compu. In fact, probably most of the people using Compu should have one of these for reference. Hell, if there was a DVD for training on MyDMX, I'd want to order it, and I feel really comfortable on the MyDMX product. I did request but never received a DVD on the DMX Operator, but since I rarely use that anymore, I don't see any point for that, but I do know how to use that very well(unless you want me to go program it, I still need the manual to help me in and out of that!)

So, hell, I saw that Page 13, and it sucked. We went from a 4-channel trait chart and a 10-channel trait chart overlaying each other. That has got to be one of the least understandable things I've seen in a while besides out tax laws. At least the ADJ manual was significantly shorter and intended to make sense. Hell, even I am confused. Why do we need 7 channels in 10 channel mode to cover what 1 channel did in 4 channel mode?

But I can beat your record. I have well over 5000 events under my belt, most being major concerts with A-listers.

Nobody gave me any breaks in this business. I had to "break" a few people to get my foot in the door. Tired of hacks making money and stinking up venues and can't do the job, while I have to these days sit around and wait for people to get their heads out of their butts and recognize that "you get what you pay for".
