DLS 15P questions

A couple of questions on powered speakers in general and the DLS 15Ps in particular. I get a humm when I first power them up and it stays until I actually start playing music. It's a bit annoying, especially since it stays while I am on the mic. Is this common? Any remedies?

Also, for the input/output levels in the back, any suggestions on the ideal settings for these? I can control the overall gain through my mixer. Thanks gang.
