Yeah, i just purchased an American Dj Scan from a friend in used condition. I just replaced the fuse, and when i plugged in the dj scan, the glass mirror moved 3-5 times then stopped. No lighting is coming out. The fan is still on.

I just downloaded the user's manual, but can't seem to get it working. Any idea? Thanks again

When it is plugged in, the lamp should come on. You can prob see some light peaking out the front of the scanner if it works.

If you are unsure or see the light, turn all the dip switches off and the sensitivity knob all the way to the right (clockwise) and clap your hands. The mirror should move every or every other clamp as well as colors changing etc.

Let us know what you find!

I got exactly the same problem...
Tried this:
"turn all the dip switches off and the sensitivity knob all the way to the right (clockwise) and clap your hands. The mirror should move every or every other clamp as well as colors changing etc."
Mirror does move, little LED at the back does blink/flash red, but no light.
I did check the bulb with the tester - it's OK.
What else could be wrong?
Anyone has a scematics for this unit?
I would love to fix it myself.
Most Likely the socket for the bulb if your SURE the bulb is not burnt out. Do you have another DJ Scan that works that you can swap the bulb out of?

That or possibly a burnt/loose connection some where. Follow the wires back to the power source, make sure everything has no visible damage.

If no, look at the base for the lamp. It should look like a new one...

Good Luck!

Socket looks just fine, as new...
Started to take unit apart, wire do not go "directly" to power. There is some sort of a ballast, like a choke and a capacitor.
Schematics would really help.
Another thing: the cooling fan. Should it start just as soon as you plug the power, or it only comes when it senses the overheat?
On a start up I got only gobo/color/pan, and no light/fan, and I didn't notice much of a tilt.
Does it say anything?

I do have two more units, but they are far away so I cannot compare.
Ah! That helps a lot!

I'd say its the PCB or control board thats inside there. The fan should come on as well as the light when plugged in. The fact that the pan isn't responding also points to the logic board.

I would look again on the board or around it for any visible damage. I would also check all the connections to the board. It seems odd for just the tilt fan and light portion of the board to fail but I've seen it happen. Maybe something else....

Good Luck

Here is what i found:
Cooling fan was seized up, guess was running dry. Not a best cooling fan anyway (9225D1HSPL), sleeve bearing etc.- http://tinyurl.com/2u9rlv
As a result solid state transformer was running hot and I believe overheated and burned out too.
It's similar to - http://tinyurl.com/2vo8bc, only 150W supposedly.
Though no visible damage on the circuit board.
On a top I found broken wires close to mirror/motor assembly, hence no proper pan/tilt.
Now, anyone know of a good parts supplier in Toronto, Canada?
I figure if it will be around $50 after all, I’ll go for it just to save time and headache. Otherwise I’ll try to fix it myself.

Tnx.
I have a couple DJ Scans and the light wasn't working on one. It turned out to just be a loose connection on one of those wire clips behind the fan.

My problem is someone removed the color gels or whatever they are from the color wheel. I tried just glueing some gels on the wheel but they melted. I need a replacement color wheel but need a parts supply.. in Toronto too!.

I'll try L&M I guess but they probably won't have it in stock.

Let me know if you have any success in finding a parts supply.
I'm back again, i had my dj scan repaired about a month ago directly at the american dj supply inc.

It worked fine. now its back to being broke again.

the mirror moves tothe sensitivity knob, and the fan turns on when plugged in

but no light is coming from the bulb

WHen american dj supply tech repaired it,
he told me he replaced the transfomer because it was burnt out.

the part # is Z-ss6.

i was thinking to order from them and replace it myself?

Your part: http://tinyurl.com/yw22kb
Since you in the states, just order and replace - not a rocket science. It's pain in the butt to unclip the circuit board though. But I would check the bulb first. Also before you order anything, check if you can hear light click from the relay inside when the fixture senses the sound and start to move mirror and about 5-8 sec after it stops. That's the relay the one sends power to the transformer for the lamp. If you hear clicks - the only problem left, a transformer (if the bulb is OK)

To Martin G.:
Call Sounds Distribution if you do not want to pay markup and wait from L&M.
(905) 428-9062 or (416) 299-0665 - ask for service department.

I got from them two transformers & a mirror.
Your part: http://tinyurl.com/yrwqsz - expect to pay a little more than US price.

Hope this helps
I have problems with those as well. Most of the time it's the 250watt PS just to the side of the fan. I can hear the control board switch on when sound is present. Cost is $30 from AMDJ parts.
If you are good with a meter you can measure input voltage on the 2 pin input connector to see if voltage is coming from control board ($36 from parts site). Should have 24 volts on lamp socket side.
Fan can be replaced with a good PC fan from your favorite computer store.
