I have 4 of the original dj scan's. I'm running them off of a dmx op pro board. They are garbage if i try to run them for a slow scan, I was wondering if it's possible to change the stepper motors for the pan and tilt with ones that are smoother? I see they have 2 stepper motors listed on the adj parts store would those just be replacing the jumpy ones or have they been improved since the original dj scan? Thanks

The Dj scan doesn't really use a real stepper motor, its actually a controlled servo motor design. Regaurdless of time, they have not made a better servo motor for pan and tilt for the DJ scan. U might think, well ill just put a scan tron motor on there, but the power might not be the same that is sent to the light. Enjoy the fast scan of the DJ scan cause thats all u can get. However there is an option. I recommend selling them. There is a large demand for full package sales on ebay, i bet u could sell the 4 dj scans w/ controller for about 800 if u start with no reserve at $1. Thats what i did, i got more than 1000 too for selling that package. lates. Just buy the new SCAN 250, it has smooth scan plus strobin. which is another feature that the basic dj scan lacks. I think i read somewhere u have 4 dj spots too, just get more of those guys.
I am kind of new to purchasing these. My first purchase was the DJ Scan 250. I got two at 149 each. I felt pretty good about it, until I found out just a month later that I should have bought the Scan 250. No comparison... brighter, faster, and much smoother scanning. These are true stepper motors, and from what I can tell, this fixture will be road worthy. Not sure what I am going to do with the DJ scans. I feel kind of stuck with them. It's not that they aren't good lighting, like you say, they are just too slow and inacurate scanning. I guess I can use them on the drums or something like that. For sure, I will use the Scan 250's for front spotting. what an awesome fixture! At the rate American DJ is going, do you think anybody will ever buy par cans and dimmer packs any more?
They must be pretty sweet then. I am quite pleased with the Scan 250's. I guess my only complaint would be that out of the two I got, one of them is brighter, not much, but a little. Quite a jump in price to anything comparable. If you are on a budget, I think the scan 250's are the choice. Just need to find a buyer for these two DJ scan 250's....
