DJ Program & MyDMX on same laptop

I use MyDMX on the same laptop as my DJ Program and it works fine. I have to alt-tab between the two programs though which isn't "ideal". Once an app comes out for ipad (iphone etc), would the ipad work when MyDMX software is minimized? In other words, could I have the DJ Software screen up on my laptop and hit buttons on the ipad to still control the lights? Or will MyDMX software have to be up "front" to work with the app?
